Why Online Payment Works for Me
-
Online payment has saved me from a lot of late fees and penalties. I am the worst at writing letters, sending postcards, and doing anything else that requires mailing so I always try to make an online payment when I can. I do not know why, I just cannot ever remember or get up the motivation to send stuff in the mail. I always feel bad because I procrastinate horribly when it comes to thank you cards, birthday presents, and everything else. Also, if it was not for the internet, I would not stay in touch with a lot of the people who come in and out of my life. The internet has provided me with a very easy way to keep in touch with old friends through Facebook and e-mail.
Mailing in bills is not excluded from the procrastination I experience when it comes to mailing things. That is why whenever I have the option of having online payment as a way to pay my bills, I take it! Online payment is so much better than having to make payments in the mail. First of all, I always lose the paper bills when they come to my house.
Last month, I received my cable and internet bill in the mail. I put it aside because I knew I had plenty of time to send it in and make the payment. Unfortunately, it got buried under a stack of papers and I forgot all about it. Eventually, I received a letter in the mail telling me I was being charged for being late on my payment. When I got the letter I freaked out. I had totally forgotten about my bill! Fortunately, I got onto the internet and cable website and found out I could make an online payment. Thank goodness I had the online payment option because it took away the time it would take me to send in a check. Plus, after I signed up, the online payment simply took out the money from my account every month. This way, I did not have to deal with paying a bill and wasting stamps every month. Instead, I would automatically make an online payment every month without even thinking about it! The online catch to this is that I have to make sure I have enough money in my account to pay the online payment.
Another time I wish I would have had an online payment option is when I set up a credit card at a clothing store and did not realize it. I guess I forgot or something, but I owed about forty bucks for some clothes I had bought. I kept getting letters from the store in the mail, but I kept throwing them away, thinking they were junk mail. It turns out that they were actually bills that I needed to pay and every time they sent me one, I was charged more and more late fees. If I could have had online payment set up as a way to pay off the credit card, I would have realized what I had done before I was charged hundreds of dollars and began my twenties with bad credit!
Because of these experiences and because I am horrible at keeping track of bills and mailing them, I always use online payment when I have that option. It requires so much less work, time, and organization.
