What to Bring Fly Fishing
Uncategorized — By Shopping Blogs on October 31, 2009 9:25 amIf you are thinking about going fly fishing for the first time, you will need to do a lot of research on how to fly fish and what you will need to bring and wear. Usually, this sport will take up a good chunk of your day and will require that you bring quite a lot of supplies and gear. Being unprepared while fly fishing can lead to a number of uncomfortable situations for you and can end up ruining your whole day.
One of the first things you will need to consider is how warm or cold the weather is going to be where you will be fly fishing. Typically, you will not know exactly what the temperature will be like outside, so it is usually best to dress in layers. Having way too much clothing is much better than having way too little clothing because you can always strip off layers if you get too hot. If you get too cold however, and don’t have more clothing to layer up in, you will end up being very miserable and will most likely end up going home from fly fishing unsuccessful and upset.
Remember, this activity is something you are most likely doing on your own time for your own enjoyment, so make the most of it by being properly prepared.
No matter what the temperature conditions are, there are a few things you should bring fly fishing that you might normally not think about. Firstly, do not forget water and food. Being out in the sun all day long is definitely going to create dehydration especially if you do not have plenty of water to replenish yourself with. If you forget your water you could end up getting sick and, once again, having your whole fly fishing experience ruined. Bringing a snack for extra energy is also a good idea because you will need to be energized and attentive while fishing, and if you do need to pull in a struggling fish, you are going to want to have all the energy possible to reel it in.
Another important thing to bring along fly fishing is a wide brimmed hat. Being outside all day, regardless of how sunny it may seem, will definitely result in a burned and itchy scalp if you do not have a hat to protect it. Also, a wide brimmed hat will help protect your face from the sun’s rays while fly fishing. However, just because you have a hat on does not mean you should also not have sunscreen. Make sure to lather up in sunscreen before going fly fishing and also to bring the bottle so you can continually reapply throughout the day. Getting burned while fishing is most likely not on the list of things you want to achieve through this experience.
Finally, make sure to have some chapstick or lip balm with you when you are fly fishing. This is something very easy to forget that could make a world of difference how you feel at the end of the day. Oftentimes during fly fishing you will be out in the cold and the wind and chapped lips can definitely result from this combination. So, save yourself some dry and cracked lips by bringing along some lip balm.
These tips on what to bring fly fishing can make a world of difference to you if you do enjoy the sport. Of course, there is so much gear on top of these simple necessities you will need to bring, so try making a list before your fishing experience so you do not forget anything!
