At some point of time or another, we are all bitten by the wanderlust bug. Some of us are drained out by the hectic schedule of life and therefore need a rejuvenating break. Some of us are overtaken by the joys of exploring an unknown place. And some of us are constantly on the move because of our work itself. In short, we all travel to different places at some points in our life.

However, according to a recent survey, Canadians are the most frequent travellers, especially abroad. It could be attributed to the laidback lifestyle in Canada. Whatsoever the reason maybe for such a finding, the fact of the matter is that Canadians and travelling go hand in hand. But for the trip to be a pleasurable one, Canadians travelling abroad need to keep certain key things in mind.

In the recent times, we have all been hit by recession and the Canadians are no different. Therefore, it becomes imperative to focus on savings. However, to do that, you do not need to cut down on travelling. The Canadians travelling to the foreign land should keep the following tips in mind if they do not want to burn a hole in their pockets.

  • Plan well in advance- To get the best travel deals on offer, one must plan a vacation well in advance. Grabbing a last minute flight may be okay for Canadians travelling on an emergency business tour or meeting, but spending a luxury on a vacation is surely not a good idea. One can find lucrative travel deals at the local travel dealer and on the internet too. In fact, online is the best place to grab those limited offerings.
  • Cheap air tickets- Another point the Canadians travelling to a distant land must keep in mind is to get cheap air tickets. Often times, people make the mistake of using airline websites like expedia et al. Using the website of the airline you are planning to travel on is a much better deal, because the airlines do not charge extra fees for using their online services, unlike other websites. Most airlines offer an off season discount as well as dirt cheap tickets on sale. You just need to look at the right places at the right time.
  • Save on food and beverages- Often, hotels have minibars which are stocked with drinks and food items priced exorbitantly. For Canadians travelling with kids, it is always a good idea to instruct the hotel staff to clear out the minibar because with kids around, it could always mean an inflated hotel bill- something you do not want in these hard times. Also, you could always replace the expensive items with your own food and beverages bought at a nominal cost.

I am sure that if Canadians travelling abroad keep these things in mind, they are sure to save a lot more that what they had expected to initially. This also means that they would be able to travel a lot more throughout the year. It is a win- win situation, isn’t it?
