Vacation Shopping Online

One of the most exciting parts of preparing for vacation is finally having an excuse to revamp your wardrobe. You’re planning to snap a lot of photos while you’re cruising around the city, seeing the sites or relaxing on the beach, and you’re going to be sure you look good in each and every one.

The problem?

Shopping is time consuming. You’re already taking time off from work and school; between getting everything done before you leave, packing and doing laundry, finding time to shop is just asking a bit too much.

The solution?

Online shopping. You can browse stores on the web during breaks at work, during class, or even late at night after the physical stores are closed. You can buy on the Internet, or you can have a solid list ready to go when you buy from a store. Either way, you’re saving time.

Check out these tips for how to be a savvy vacation shopper without ever leaving your keyboard.

Shop for the Season

Check the weather where you’re headed and buy clothes that will suit the conditions. For instance, if you’re from a warmer climate and booking a Chicago holiday for February, it might be good to invest in snow boots, a coat, scarves, gloves or mittens. And maybe a back up of each wouldn’t hurt. Stay up to date with the weather and research the typical climate during that time of the year.

Shop for the Whole Family

Many sites offer a discount for buying in bulk, or spending more than a certain amount of money, usually at least $100. Buying for the whole family, friends or travel companions means that everyone can save on those pesky shipping charges.

Buy Early

The world of online shopping, unfortunately, leaves a lot of room for unknowns. Between shipments that mysteriously disappear somewhere within the Bermuda Triangle, arrive six months after you placed the order, or arrive in unrecognizable condition, you have to plan for the worst sometimes. While most websites and shipping companies have no problem getting you your packages on time, there are the occasional slip-ups here and there. Start buying early in case you have to make any exchanges or returns, and to be sure your clothes arrive before you return home from your trip. Otherwise, they’re not much use.

Think Outside of the Box

Besides just clothing, try to predict what items you think you might need for your upcoming vacation. Suitcases, GPS units, passport holders, ebooks or new music are other items that can make your traveling easier and more enjoyable. Think of what you need or use most while you’re traveling and check to be sure that all of your gadgets are in working order. Make sure you have enough batteries, adapters, chargers and cables for all the electronics you’ll use!

Keep Receipts

Be sure to hang onto receipts for all of your items. Maybe some of them didn’t work as expected while you were traveling, you didn’t use it, or you didn’t even take the product with you. Having receipts handy will make exchanges a breeze when you return.

With all your gear in tow and outfitted in new clothes, you’ll be ready take your vacation by storm. Or rather, by sun.
