Product Description
The groundbreaking follow-up to the international bestsellera hands-on guide to putting McKinsey techniques to work in your organization
McKinsey & Company is the most respected and most secretive consulting firm in the world, and business readers just can’t seem to get enough of all things McKinsey. Now, hot on the heels of his acclaimed international bestseller The McKinsey Way, Ethan Rasiel brings readers a powerful new guide to putting McKinsey concepts and skills into actionThe McKinsey Mind. While the first book used case studies and anecdotes from former and current McKinseyites to describe how “the firm” solves the thorniest business problems of their A-list clients, The McKinsey Mind goes a giant step further. It explains, step-by-step, how to use McKinsey tools, techniques and strategies to solve an array of core business problems and to make any business venture more successful.
Designed to work as a stand-alone guide or together with The McKinsey Way, The McKinsey Mind follows the same critically acclaimed style and format as its predecessor. In this book authors Rasiel and Friga expand upon the lessons found in The McKinsey Way with real-world examples, parables, and easy-to-do exercises designed to get readers up and running.

Throughout the 1990s, consultants were the kings of business and one firm, McKinsey & Co., reigned above all others. In The McKinsey Mind, Ethan M. Raisel and Paul N. Friga, former McKinsey & Co. consultants, describe the methods that the famed firm uses in improving the performance of its consultants. These techniques, which relate to problem solving, management and communications, combine to produce the equivalent of a basic MBA textbook. But unlike much of your grad-school reading, this one is right on target to address your real-life business executive. As such, we from getAbstract recommend this book not just for its McKinsey cachet, but for its applicable approaches to business.

The framework is brilliant. Make a hypothesis, use structure (MECE), delegate, gather data, test your thesis, recommend – & pitch your recommendation to create chage. I know it from experience, this stuff works. The book certainly lays out the framwork and as you read and learn how “Mckinsey mind” works you will be in a position to solve any problem. No. Seriously, any business problem. Yes, you can bring millions of dollars to your company if you do it right. Think about it, this books will cost you less than 20$. Do you think there is a better return of investment out there?

Given the tight economic conditions we’re seeing today, this book’s approach of fact-based analysis is a refreshing change from “irrational exuberance.”
I have my MBA and have been in business for several years. I have found numerous opportunities to apply the book’s principles to both everyday professional (new product launches) and personal (wedding planning) occassions.

This is framework and brief explanation of the five areas of activities that McKinsey consultants enagage in. They are:
1. Framing the Problem
2. Designing the Analysis
3. Gathering Data
4. Interpreting the Results
5. Presenting the Ideas.
The ideas and steps are well presented. No earth-shattering or non-intuitive ideas are presented – which therefore places this book into a good ‘primer’ category. One of the best ideas I felt that was helpful to me was the ‘Logic Tree’ method of framing the problem. It involves the MECE (Mutually Exclusive, Collectively Exhaustive) approach wherein everything needed to solve the problem is culled and everything not needed is lopped. You examine a problem from ’20,000 feet’.

The book is easy to read, some of the lessons learned, good tips, and concepts worth the book. I enjoyed reading the book.
