The Importance of Agricultural Equipment
Agricultural Equipment — By Shopping Blogs on December 10, 2009 4:58 amThe rules of agriculture are really simple. Without agriculture we would have difficulties getting a decent meal and without it, life would be a lot harder to live. Agriculture is thus an invaluable part of our lives. However, with the increase in population size, farmers have had to improve the methods and agricultural equipment . This is aimed at improving the amount produced and quality of the crops produced.
Agricultural equipment is the devises that are used in such operations. They are used by farmers in planning, cultivating, and harvesting of crops. Early agricultural equipment involved hoes, spade, trowel, and hand held crude implements. With the growth of technology, these were gradually replaced with more of use equipment like the plow or large rake which was drawn by animals.
But now, farming is done on a large scale using heavy agricultural equipment like tractors equipped with large ploughs. The tractor is perhaps the single greatest agricultural tool in use today. Its myriad of easily adaptable functions makes it the best implement for modern agriculture. For example, it can be used for transporting farm products from one end of the farm to another. Apart from the hoe, other appendages such as a harvester or cart can be hitched onto it and used for farm work. The power shafts of tractors can also be rigged to power agricultural implement and agricultural equipment like grinders, pumps, and in some cases portable irrigators.
However not every country employs such machinery. In fact the use of modern agricultural equipment such as the tractor is limited to the developed country. To a large extent, most arable land found in Africa and Asia are cultivated using simple agricultural equipment . The use of modern machinery is found more commonly in developed nations like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Western Europe, and Australia.
Today, the use of machinery has been adapted to various facets of agriculture. For instance during the planting and cultivation of crops, manure is spread by an agriculture tool known as the manure spreader. A cultivator is a tool used for the destruction of weeds as well as the loosening and hence aeration of the soil. The use of insecticides and pesticides is used for the control of pests. For large farms this is normally found to be dispersed with the use of planes or the like.
Agricultural equipment has also evolved when it comes to harvesting. In developed countries like the United States, gone are the days when the scythe was used to harvest wheat. With large wheat threshing machines doing the job, harvesting is not only easier, it has also become much faster than before. Other mechanical agricultural equipment used during harvesting includes mechanical cotton pickers, field choppers, and corn pickers.
With the evolution of time, agricultural equipment are only expected to improve, which will end result in even easier farming and harvesting methods in the years to come.
Fortunately, this will also result in even cheaper and more abundant food.
