  • Sports in America

Sports make up a huge part of the American culture and way of life. Whether you are immersed in them personally or you just hear about them, it is impossible to live in America and not be exposed to sports on a regular basis.

For many people, sports are introduced very early in their life. There are many different options and sport activities you can enroll your children in as young as age two or three. It is very common for children to begin swimming lessons, gymnastics, dance, soccer, t-ball, or many others at a very young age. Enrolling your children in an activity such as one of these is important for a number of reasons. First of all, children need to stay active and by having them in sports they will be exercising, socializing, and growing as an individual. By putting your child into sports at a young age they will be able to decide what they like and do not like very young. This is important because if they find a sport they really do enjoy and want to pursue they can start being active in it early and can end up being very good at it because they will have so much time to work on their skills and technique. By putting your child into sports early they will be much more likely to be successful in their chosen sport. Also, because they are physically active they will stay fit and be much healthier than if they are in front of the television all day long.

Being involved and successful in sports is important to many children and teens because it will give them self confidence, expose them to friends with similar interests, and give them a sense of identity. Once someone is passionate about a sport or other activity they will have something to live for and a way to define themselves.

Many people, whether they play a sport or not, enjoy watching sports. They give a school or city a sense of pride and bring people together. In high school and college, attending your school’s football, soccer, or any other game is a big social event that brings all of the students together. If a team is successful, everyone is excited for them and the whole school will rally behind them. Supporting the school and the sports teams at school is something many students enjoy doing even if they are not involved in a sport themselves. College sports are an even bigger deal and a college football game is looked forward to by many students, parents, and friends as an all day activity. This is on a whole larger scale when it comes to a city’s baseball or football team. People all over the state support the team that represents their state and sporting events are attended by the thousands. Tons of clothing, accessories, and other items are created with a given teams logo and colors and people wear them and decorate their house and car in their favorite team’s apparel.

Whether you like sports or not, it in unavoidable to escape them because they are such a huge part of the American way of life. No matter what your take on sports is, it is difficult to go a day without hearing about sports on the radio or television or talking about them with friends.
