  • Apparels Expectations

People adorn themselves in various forms of apparels for a number of reasons. In our society today, there are certain expectations and guidelines about how one should dress at particular occasions and events. The clothing and accessories that people wear often say a lot to society about who they are as a person, what they are like, what they value, and much more, regardless of whether this is true or not. Because of this, most people today pay close attention to the apparels they decide on before they walk out of the house.

These clothing guidelines begin at an extremely young age. For example, if you attend church on Sunday then you probably knew, even as a young child, that attending church also meant dressing up. Apparels such as khakis, dresses, bows, skirts, and ties, are expected at many churches and if you did attend church then you are probably familiar with this. Although in most situations you could still go to church dressed in sweat pants and a hoodie, it would be frowned upon and many people would make preconceived judgments of you based solely on your choice of apparels.

Even in elementary school, certain expectations are held for children. Your clothing is expected to be clean, matched, and fit, and by the older grades having name brand stuff becomes extremely important. This is because many children and teens learn to value apparels for their name and not for what they actually are. If you have these name brand outfits, it is thought that it will be easier to be accepted and liked by classmates.

These apparels guidelines continue through the teens and into adulthood. If you attend college and go to a football game for your school, you are expected to wear the school’s logo and/or colors. Not doing so will result in many believing you have poor team spirit or are not supporting your team. In order to fit in with everyone else and not be judged because of the apparels you choose, it is necessary to dress in accordance with your school and college football team.

College life also has certain expectations for the apparels you should wear to a club or party. Many people spend tons of time trying to pick out the perfect outfit before a social event because, if they want to meet someone, they know that their apparels are going to be one of the first things someone else is going to notice. Dressing to a certain image can convey a number of meanings to the opposite sex. Based on how you dress you can be saying I’m single, I’m conservative, I want to have a good time, I am a carefree spirit, or any number of things.

The most important place to pay attention to the apparels you wear that day is usually your job. Once you do settle into a full time job after high school or college, your boss and coworkers are most likely going to have certain rules for the apparels you are allowed to adorn yourself in. Whether you are a lawyer, a business person, a teacher, or a fast food worker, all of these jobs are going to expect you to put on certain apparels before you come to work so you look professional.

Although the apparels people choose to wear do not define them as people, society often does define others based on our clothing decisions. Wear the clothing and accessories that make you most happy, just make sure to follow the rules and apparels guidelines if they exist for you work or school.
