Depending on who you talk to, you will find that not everyone agrees with the theory behind 7.1 surround sound. For the true home theater enthusiasts, they want their theater experience to be more than just sound all the way around them. They want to feel as if they are a part of what they are watching. They want to forget that they are sitting in their living room. When they purchase a 7.1 audio video receiver they have one key component to bringing that experience to life.

When you look at the rest of what is needed to build that great experience,  a good audio video receiver is the heart of the entertainment system. The 7.1 audio video receiver is the device that everything plugs into to feed off of. So what that means for the owner is that they should ensure that this piece of equipment is as high end as you can afford. Since you are relying on this receive to power all the speakers and to ensure that the right video is corresponding to the right audio. The importance of the receiver cannot be stressed enough.

So as you find the right 7.1 audio video receiver for you, you should also be on the lookout for great speakers. Even though you find a great receiver you will still need some sound to make the experience real. The sound needs to come from somewhere and finding the right speakers is another crucial component part to the great system. The speakers all have to be the same brand and they need to be somewhat in the category or class. You do not want to pair a high end speaker set with a low end speaker set of the same brand. You will get uneven sound. Listen to many different speakers until you find one that you like. Most people choose the speaker they go with because of its highs, lows, quality and clarity.

You cannot go wrong if you take the time to listen to many speakers and see if you can hear a difference. Trust your ears.

To round out the system, you need to ensure that you find the right subwoofer for your system. The subwoofer is going to be able to give you those low tones that you can not get from your other speakers. With using the settings of the 7.1 audio video receiver you can set the tones to be overpowering or just a soft rumble. The sound is completely different when this low tone producer is turned off. You feel like something is missing. The human ear loves to hear the full range of sound. It will pick up on the subtleties of missing tones.

There are many parts to the perfect system, but making sure that all of these parts work together is key. The biggest part of the whole system and the most important part is the 7.1 audio video receiver . You can build around the receiver.  Typically what you need to do is put the majority of the money into the receiver. If anything, you can always replace the speakers and other components around the receiver, but you want to keep everything hooked up the same.  When you find the right receiver for you system, you do not want to take it out to replace it. If you believe that you should buy the next step up you should. You should always buy the best for what you can afford.

Yeah, I think 5.1 is plenty of channels to enjoy home theater. I don’t see the point of the extra rear channels unless you are using inferior speakers.
