The laser pointer has been around as late as the 1980s and was originally designed with the purpose of science. Many institutions use large auditoriums for their presentations in order to maximize the amount of students learning. There is a wide range of subject matter that professors and teachers tend to use their laser pointer for in order to direct the eyes of their students. When they use the device, their intentions are to ensure that their students are following along with what they are speaking of.  Sometimes in the presentation, the subject matter is very complicated and parts of the presentation need to have their complete focus. Having the laser pointer is great for the teachers because the human eye tends to migrate to a moving point. When the professor moves around the center of attention will stay at the laser as people will move their eyes to where the pointer now rests.

Military Usage
You can see that the laser pointer has a very important use in the armed forces. You will see that some of the weapons that are used have the device attached to it. They do this so they can focus their attack on a specific point in the distance. Sometimes with the target is a moving target so the pointer assists them in hitting their target.

Even for those soldiers that have been in the military for quite some time, they still use the pointer in order to be as precise as humanly possible. Sometimes when you are in the field as solider or even at war, you do not have a second chance to hit your target. If you miss, that could mean your life. The importance of the laser in the military cannot be stressed enough.

Practical Jokes
As you are sitting in your two hour long class which you know you have to take in order to graduate, you find yourself distracted sometimes. As you are trying your hardest to pay attention and grasp the concept of what the teacher is trying to convey, you start to hear some mild chuckles all around you. You are not sure what these low rumbles of laughter could be about, but then you notice that there is a small dot on the forehead of the teacher.

You try not to include yourself in the joke but you embrace the small distraction that is keeping you interested in the presentation. Somehow, listening to the teacher is a lot more enjoyable when there is a focus red beam of light on his shining bald head.

People use laser pointer all the time for practical jokes and also to entertain their simply minded animals. For the most part lasers can be damaging to the eye if in contact for too long, but it is mildly amusing when you are in a serious presentation and someone around you makes the light dance all around the teacher. For animals you can get hours upon hours of entertainment watching them try to attack and conquer the small object that is the cause of their aggression.
