Many people find shopping fun and exciting, while others find it exhausting and stressful. People who enjoy shopping relish the opportunity to visit the local mall or department store to try different products out.  These kinds of shoppers might not even mind if they don’t find exactly what they’re looking for, or if they don’t purchase anything at all.  For them the actual process of shopping itself is an enjoyable pass-time.  In contrast, some people dread making the inevitable trip to a shopping center.  Long lines, crowds, pushy sales people, a lack of choices, or an overwhelming number of choices are all common complaints made by people who don’t like shopping.  Still, there are few people in the world who can get through life without making some shopping trips.  The fact of the matter is that the global society is based on consuming manufactured goods.  This consumption is a way of life for nearly every one on the planet and it requires some form of shopping.

Regardless of how the process of shopping is viewed, there are many ways to make it more enjoyable.  One way to make shopping more enjoyable is to do it with someone else.  Making a social activity out of shopping is a common way for people to make shopping more fun and easy.   This allows both people to ask each other’s opinion when making difficult choices.  Having a friend along to look at a new outfit, or help you compare two different personal computers can be extremely helpful.  While shopping at a mall many people also frequently find something else to do such as see a movie, or eat a meal together.  Similarly, a normal day out together can spontaneously turn into a shopping trip.  Two friends meeting for a cup of tea can turn into two fellow shoppers when they spot some interesting products in a shop window.

Shopping online is normally a more solitary endeavor.  This kind of shopping can be done from the comfort of your own home, and doesn’t require any other person’s presence besides your own.  This means not dealing with over zealous sales people, impenetrable crowds, or other annoying situations.  Online shopping can also provide detailed product descriptions that make decisions very easy.

These days almost everyone needs to make frequent trips to the grocery store to do their food shopping.  This is an activity that is frequently accomplished alone, and is not easily done online.  It is likely that online grocery shopping will never become as popular as doing it at a brick and mortar grocery store.  People like to be able to handle the produce they want to buy.  Inspecting fruits and vegetables for size and weight and potential blemishes is an important part of food shopping.  Also, going the grocery store often leads shoppers to buy something impulsively.  Walking through the aisles a particular food item might jump out at you, initiating a craving that wasn’t there when you arrived at the store.  This makes shopping for food in person an important aspect of the process.
