Recently, I have been conducting mystery shopper calls for my company. It is an odd but somewhat fun change of pace for me. Admittedly, I am much more used to be on the other end of things. Now, I know what it feels like to set out to shop self storage .

Every time I set out to mystery shop other companies, I inevitably gain respect for my coworkers. It is truly difficult for representatives and property managers to deliver all of the necessary information to callers in a reasonable amount of time. So, too, is it hard for representatives to genuinely and uniquely address the concerns of different customers. As I made my mystery shop calls, I was surprised by how aptly the site managers addressed the scenarios I had come up with. I could tell that when callers wanted to shop self storage , they would be helped quite well, indeed, by these site managers.

I should note, here, that I also gained a lot of respect for self storage callers by means of these mystery shops. I can see, having constructed several scenarios and objections, that customers may be opposed to certain modes of information delivery. Unique callers, I dare say, have unique concerns and expectations. By doing a bunch of these mystery shops, I have begun to appreciate the uniqueness of our callers, and the importance of addressing their concerns succinctly and specifically.

If you are on my end of the self storage industry, it would benefit you to take some time off and do a few mystery shops. You will learn a lot about your customers in the process of doing so.
