Self Storage Customer

Remember: you can never take the “person” out of “personal mini storage.”  If you are a self storage customer, make sure that you are getting your money’s worth out of your storage facility and your property management.

Seldom do callers attempt to take things into their own hands when it comes to an issue with a self storage company.  Often, upset callers have waited a substantial amount of time to file an official complaint.  They have, in my opinion, let the problem fester in their minds rather than seek help from the start.

It is important, to remember that “personal” self storage is all about catering to an individual’s needs.  If you feel that the service you are receiving is not adequate; if you feel that your monthly payments are not actually buying what you thought you were buying, do not hesitate to speak to your manager and clarify your expectations.  If your property management cannot or will not help, then you can simply begin to look around for a different company.

I feel that it is important to remind the self storage customer that he/she can, and should take proactive steps to solve any problems relating to their personal storage unit.  It does not do anyone any good to let bad companies and bad site managers remain in the market.

In short, do not let your storage facility remove your needs from the equation.  Maintain regular contact with the site management and make sure that your money is going to a company that you could recommend to your friends.
