Remember those Coupons

Coupons have saved my family tons and tons of money. My mom is an avid collector of coupons, and every time the newspaper comes she pores over it looking for money saving deals. Then, she cuts them out and arranges them by category very neatly. After they are arranged she places them in a white envelope which she keeps in her purse. Every time we go to the store my mom sorts through them and purchases basically anything she has a coupon for that she thinks we will need.

Sometimes, I wonder if the coupons actually cause my mom to spend more money than she really would, since she often buys things simply because she has a coupon for it. Before we make a trip to the store she always has me look through them and anything I could possibly need that she has a coupon for she will buy for me without a thought. It is kind of funny because even if a coupon is only saving her a couple of cents, she always feels justified buying something that she has a coupon for. If I need something that she does not have a coupon for, however, she has to have a huge debate with me over it and I have to prove that it is something I absolutely have to have. For my mom, coupons are the key to her shopping experience. I am too lazy to do this, but I know whenever I want something in particular I just need to find a coupon for it and she will easily buy it for me.

I do not think I have the organizational skills I need to use coupons. In order to use them effectively, you need to spend time looking for them, cutting them out, arranging them, and then actually remember to bring them to the store or wherever you are going that you can use them. We are given ad sheets every

Wednesday on my college campus that I always enjoy looking at during or between my classes. While I am looking at the ad sheet I always find tons of coupons that I could use and know I should use. But, when it comes down to it, even when I go to that store or restaurant I always forget to bring my coupons . Once I get to the store and remember that I forgot my coupons, I am always a little bit frustrated with myself.

A big pet peeve I have with coupons are when people try to take advantage of you because they have a coupon. For example, my friend had a buy one get one free coupon for an ice cream the other day. I did not have a coupon, but I figured that we would split the cost of one ice cream when we actually had two, since we were only paying for one because of the coupon. No, instead my friend decided that she would use her coupon to get her free ice cream off of me buying the first one. I did not think that was fair at all. If you are going to use coupons, you need to be respectful about how you use them.

Even though I hardly ever use coupons, I wish that I did. I know that if I got a bit more organized and remembered to bring them with me, I could probably end up saving quite a bit of money.
