Reasons for Needing Psychotherapy
Psycho Theraphy — By Shopping Blogs on November 22, 2009 9:58 amhere are many reasons why a person might need to go to psychotherapy. So many different things affect how a person feels about themselves and the world around them and the nature nurture continuous battle is always going on. However, no matter what influences in a person’s life or what genetics affect them, the need to be happy and fulfilled is necessary for all human beings. Many individuals can find their own happiness quite easily and feel good and happy with their lives. However, many people struggle with inner conflict and turmoil that affects their state of mind and how happy they are with their lives.
When this is the case, many people turn to psychotherapy in the hopes of finding some peace of mind by talking to a professional who can help them sort through their problems. These professionals can get a pretty good idea of what drives their patient’s nature and why they do the things they do when they do talk to them and then can help walk their patients through a recovery plan. Psychotherapy is not always effective, but for many suffering individuals it can help a great deal.
Although the reasons people go to psychotherapy are beyond numerous, there are a few broad things which can affect a person’s inner mind to a very strong degree and can ultimately lead to that person needing psychotherapy. Childhood is a precious time when a person is influenced strongly by the people and situations that surround them. Any child that has someone abusive in their lives is going to be extremely affected by it. Children are impressionable and whether the abuse is physical or mental, it will most likely create a lasting negative effect on the child’s mentality and self esteem. Often, if children are abused they will have very low self esteems and feel like they deserved whatever abuse came their way. This abuse will often lead to the child needing psychotherapy so they can work through these memories and understand that the abuse was not their fault. Psychotherapy can help build a child’s self esteem and moral back up after a tragic experience like this.
Negative body image is another reason why someone might need psychotherapy. If someone is not happy with the way they look, they can often become extremely depressed with very low self esteem. Having a bad body image can also lead to physical mutilation and even suicidal thoughts or actions if one does not seek help. Psychotherapy can help a person feel better about their body and also help them get on a healthy road to recovery.
Tragic experiences in one’s life can also create the need for psychotherapy. For example, if a loved one dies or is significantly injured, the friend or family member might not be able to get through the stages of grieving and coping on their own. Sometimes, psychotherapy becomes necessary in order to help the person get through the coping process and move on from obsessing over the incident and the loss. Sometimes people feel that when they lose a loved one they no longer want to live and a psychotherapist will help them see why this is not the answer.
There are many reasons why psychotherapy becomes necessary for certain individuals. No matter what the reason is, if someone is not happy and needs to talk to someone then psychotherapy could be a great way to help them work through their problems.
