Psycho theraphy is the relationship established between the patient and the psychotherapist in order to help the patient solve the problems in his life. This relationship is essentially brought about intentionally and is believed to improve the patients well being.

There are many techniques that are usually employed in Psycho theraphy such as communication, dialogue, behavior change, relationship building, etc. These therapies are believed to bring about a positive change in the mental health of the patient. It is not only functional at the individual level but is also very effective in a group level, like that in a family. Psycho theraphy is largely used by professionals who deal with the human mind and try to understand and unravel its mysteries. Some of the professionals who use Psycho theraphy are occupational therapists, psychiatrists, counselors, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists and psychiatric nurses.

    Systems Of Psycho Theraphy
    • Psychoanalytic – This was the first method of Psycho theraphy . It involves verbalization of patients thoughts, associations, dreams and fantasies. This greatly aids in analysis of nature of conflicts that are inherent in the patient and thereby assists in the outline of the treatment too.
    • Psychodynamic – This is also known as depth psychology. In this, the patients inner unconscious content is revealed and psychic tension is increased. This is less intense as compared to psychoanalysis.
    • Humanistic – This is the Third Force in psychology development. It largely deals with the human element in the development of an individual. It generates positive growth on the basis of rejection of determinism. A self actualizing tendency is brought out which creates an environment based relation where specific tendencies would flourish.
    • Existential – This system is based on isolation beliefs where one believes that one is alone in the world, thereby evoking the feeling of meaninglessness. This has to be reconstructed by finding own values and meanings.
    • Systemic – Unlike other systems, systemic does not deal with the individual alone. They deal with people in relation to a group, like in family therapy or marriage counseling.
    • Transpersonal – In this, the patient is addressed in a spiritual context that involves understanding of consciousness.
    • Brief – A variety of approaches are used here. There is a special focus on one single problem here. The system is solution based and involves direct intervention. The problems are addressed at the root level.

Psycho theraphy uses hundreds of approaches and new ones are springing up every minute. More often than not, it is seen that practitioners use a combination of systems and do not stick to any single one. They usually alter the system on the basis of the clients needs.

    History
Psycho theraphy is believed to have been first used by a Persian physician and thinker called Rhazes. He was the chief physician of the Baghdad Hospital. Before this, any mental disorder was treated as originating from demons or due to other medical problems, and required the patient to undergo confinement, isolation and punishment.

Psycho theraphy was developed scientifically for the first time by a neurologist named Sigmund Freud. His studies and analyses led to the development of techniques like dream interpretation, id, ego, superego, free association and transference.

Psycho theraphy is an invitation given out by a psycho therapist for an interpersonal session that would greatly help patients in solving problems more efficiently and also live their life happily.
