Pay Attention To The Cheesy Sales Pitch
-
Sales men have always used the pitch, “Make sure you are comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges.” This line probably annoys you and makes you picture the last person who tried to push a vacuum or water softener on you. But there is some truth to that little phrase.
You should consider the pros and cons of each item you look at while you are comparison shopping in a store or online. You may find a great deal on a bottom of the line appliance would not provide all the functionality you are looking for, but still be tempted to buy it.
In contrast, a top of the line appliance with a small rebate may seem like less of a bargain at first glance. If you start to list the pros and cons of each appliance, you may find that the convenience of the more expensive item and the energy efficiency of it will soon help you recoup the initial out of pocket expense. If the energy rating, reputation or functionality of one brand outweigh another then you must realize that the two are really no comparison.
Of course, that is not to say that you should not think about the comparison shopping and weigh each choice in your mind. You may find that you do not really need the extra bells and whistles so the lower model may do very well for your needs.
As discounted as the top of the line model may be, if it is out of your price range, then the sale is still not going to benefit you. Spending more than you can in order to save money is not really saving you any money.
The features and energy rating of an appliance are not the only points to consider in your comparison shopping list. Brands and manufacturers have different reputations and rating among consumers. Even different models among the same brand will have a different associated value.
Do not worry about the burden of trying out every brand and model. There are many consumer reports, product reviews and more right online at the tip of your fingers. Information like this makes comparison shopping even easier.
You can quickly read a few consumer reviews and may be able to cross something you were considering right off your list. This is an excellent way to make a short list.
Once you have decided on a few models or products you want to purchase, you should start looking for the retailer or website offering the lowest price. Be sure to include both retail stores in your local community and online sites in your comparison shopping review.
If you are considering purchasing a large or heavy item, the shipping and handling fees may be a deal breaker for ordering items online. However, many retail chains offer low or special rates online and you can have the items shipped from their warehouse to your local store.
This is an excellent option for finding a bargain on the name brand item you wanted and not having to pay any shipping fees.
If it comes down to it and you have your heart set on an item but the price is not right, talk to the sales associate at the local store and ask them to give you a discount. You may even be able to get a price match for an item you found cheaper online.
