Oil Rig Offers Many Offshore Jobs

    Many oil rigs companies offer offshore jobs . While most of these jobs involve a lot of labor, these companies ensure that employees have a good time while working for the company. They offer good compensation and living standards.

    Most of the accommodations provided have facilities that compare with top class hotels irrespective of the fact that they are based in the middle of the ocean. Other than salary, expenses like food, board, and laundry are reimbursed by the company. Your travel and transportation cost is also covered by the company.

    There are a large number of offshore jobs available with these companies at all levels. The jobs include that of Rig Mechanic, Rig Electrician, Rig Welder, Barge Engineer, Ballast Control man or Watch stander, Captain and Chief Engineer, Rig Medic, Driller, Crane Operator, Roustaboout and Derrickman. 

    Most offshore jobs in an oil rig have a 14 or21 day rotation shift. This means that you work for 14 days at a stretch and then take 21 days off. This means that you have more holidays than working days throughout the year. Many countries offer these offshore jobs but the ones that top the list are Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Mexico, Russia, Norway, China, Canada, USA, Nigeria and the United Kingdom.  

    The salary paid for each position varies. For e.g. supervisors are paid the US USD75,000 – USD100,000mark per year, roustabouts and roughnecks drill deck workers are approximately paid US USD300 per day. Specialized offshore jobs such as that of Driller are likely to make around USD56,000 per annum. Tool pushers and Drill Leaders are likely to earn around US USD75,000 – USD100,000 per year. Entry level positions typically make between US USD50,000 – US USD80,000 per annum.

    Once you take up one of these offshore jobs , you will be provided with safety boots, coveralls and safety glasses. There are smoking rooms where safety matches are provided. For meals, you would need to take off your working gear and assemble in the eating area. There might be night shifts involved as oil rigs work all twenty four hours of the day.

    You are not supposed to touch any equipment that you do not understand or know about. Having friendly relations with the chef and medics is a good idea. In the work premises, alcohol, drugs and other toxins are not permitted.

    Each and every equipment has a specific color code on it and you are only supposed to touch those which have the current color code. Weapons including lighters, knives and other flammable items are strictly prohibited on the premises. Once you travel to the country where you have taken the offshore job, you will be transported to the work site through a helicopter. You might have to part with your mobile phone while riding in the helicopter.

    There are many support offshore jobs also available such as medics and caterers etc. These support staff have a major role to play as they are the facilitators in these offshore jobs .

    There are opportunities galore that are available when you talk about offshore jobs . You would need to identify your skills and apply for a suitable position. Offshore jobs have great earning potential, that of earning while being away from home.
