Let The French Country Inspire Your Home Decor

The French Country style had always caught Leannes eye. She loved the eclectic mix of toile, brocade, and small flower prints all singing together in a room filled with antique furniture and smart accent pieces.

Until now, the only place fantasies like those had in her life were in the magazines she thumbed through in the book store. When she went to the malls shopping for this and that, she always took a little time to sit in the big comfy chair at the window of the book store. Leanne would gently look through every page and make notes of what she liked and loved about the home and garden pictures.

Every so often, an image or idea would strike her and she would purchase a magazine she especially loved, and place the remaining periodicals back on their shelf.

Before she knew it, Leanne had redecorated every room in her home with a quaint, sophisticated French Country flavor. Of course, these improvements had only been made in her mind. In reality, her apartment was painted with a gloomy grey cloud, the carpets had been worn by years of tenants before her and the small spaces did not leave much room for an antique wardrobe or table.

Dreaming of her home someday was how Leanne relaxed and de-stressed her life. So when her job offered her a promotion with one catch – Leanne would have to relocate – she was more than excited to move out of her dingy apartment and buy a little bungalow or cottage somewhere.

She could see herself now, finding a distressed hutch at a flea market, going to the malls shopping for blue and white patterned china, rummaging through yard sales looking for things that spoke to her. To Leanne, part of the charm of the French Country flavor was purposing old pieces for modern use. She could not wait to pack her apartment up, rent a truck and move across the country.

Leanne found a realtor in her new city and described the kind of home she was looking to buy. Since she had been living in such a modest apartment for many years, Leanne had tucked away a nice down payment for her new home.

Of course, she did not use all her life savings on the down payment. She reserved some aside to buy things that all homeowners need like a tool set, hammer, drill, ladder, etc. But she also kept some back for more important purchases like yards and yards of French inspired fabrics so she could make curtains and slip covers for her new home.

She was surprised at how quickly the realtor found a few houses that met her criteria. Leanne took a weekend to fly to the new city and go house hunting. Immediately, she knew destiny had found her.

Right there on a corner lot of a small subdivision was a quaint, chic little cottage with all the character and charm Leanne had dreamed of. It was no matter that the previous owners had really tried to make the home more contemporary with their straight lines and simplistic approach to decorating. When she walked into the home, she immediately saw herself cooking in the kitchen, sipping coffee by the window, reading a book in a comfy sofa perched by the front window.

And it all came full circle. All the time she spent sitting in her chair at the book store while she was at the malls shopping had prepared her for this moment – the moment when her imaginations would no longer be tangible only through pages of a magazine, but realized in her very own home.

There was nothing more to be said about it. Leanne purchased the house and spent the rest of her weekend in her new city going to all the malls shopping for new furniture. At first, she went to the malls shopping to the second hand stores and antique malls. She wanted to find a few great items that she could use to inspire and wrap the rest of her style around. Then she went to the malls shopping for lamps and mirrors and new things that would accentuate her new home. By the end of the weekend, her trip going to all the malls shopping had resulted in a nearly furnished home.

A month later, Leanne was sitting in her own living room in an overstuffed chair, drinking her latte, reading a magazine she bought a while back and making mental notes about how she could make her bedroom more chic and cozy.
