How to Manage Your Weight Loss
Diets — By Shopping Blogs on November 12, 2009 3:55 pmMedia has a major impact on how we view the world around us, and often times societies and cultures will embrace what a popular media source deems as acceptable, beautiful, successful and more. Like all things, there are pros and cons to having such an influential force in your society, your family and your own mind.
There is no doubt that weight loss advertisements flood television, print and online mediums. It is easy to get pulled into infomercials with success stories and awe at the before and after pictures in a magazine. However, if you are serious about experiencing healthy weight loss there are several things you can do to go about it in a healthy way without having to risk taking a pill or starving yourself.
First, you must decide that you want to improve your lifestyle, health or both. Lifestyle and health are major motivators when it comes to committing to lose weight. And even if your goal is purely to improve your health, your lifestyle will improve as a result, and vice versa.
Next, you should set a weight loss goal for yourself. A great way to determine a healthy weight for yourself is to look at a simple guide online. There are many charts that will provide a range of heights and weights and guide you to an ideal, or healthy, weight. Age will also factor into your ideal weight.
It is important that if you are 18 years or younger, you do not take diet pills unless prescribed by your doctor. Because you are still developing and growing during this time, the side effects and results could be harmful to your health. If you or a family member younger than 18 wishes to seek a weight loss plan, you should consult your doctor.
Once you have determined how much weight you would like to lose, you should come up with a plan. Writing out your plan can help you realize your goals and commit to them, so take 10 minutes to sit down and write down your ideas.
You may wish to start with simple lifestyle changes such as eliminating soda and juice drinks, which are made of starches and sugars and provide empty calories. Many people successfully lose 10-15 pounds simply by exclusively drinking water.
Other minor changes such as replacing your daily candy bar with a fresh fruit, parking at the rear of the lot and walking to the building, taking the stairs rather than the elevator, or not eating after 8pm will help you succeed in your goals.
If you wish to lose more than 30 pounds, if you are severely overweight or obese, or if you have ever experienced a serious injury or trauma, then you should consult your doctor before dieting or exercising. Your doctor will make sure your blood pressure, cholesterol and overall health will not suffer from a dramatic change in lifestyle. He or she will also be able to discuss the best weight loss plan for you.
Most importantly, when you are making a change in your lifestyle or weight, you should evaluate your motivation or reason and understand what a realistic expectation is. And you must realize that results will not happen overnight, so do not be discouraged. Stick with your plan and you will see results over time.
