Health Coverage May Choose A Children’s Doctor For You
Pediatricians U.S.A — By Shopping Blogs on February 27, 2010 6:04 amWhen you are looking for a children’s doctor for your newborn, toddler or adolescent child, you cannot afford to make the wrong decision. You can not afford the wrong choice in a financial sense and you can not afford a poor choice when it comes to the well being of your child.
Financially, making the right choice in your children’s doctor may not be completely up to you. It’s an unfortunate fact but HMOs, POS, PPOs and even state aid programs like Medicare and Medicaid will likely have guidelines or restrictions on which doctors you can see and when they will pay your claims.
Sometimes you will be limited to in-network doctor choices or certain clinics in your area. If you are having trouble finding a clinic or pediatrician in your town or metro region then you should take a different approach. Contact your health insurance provider and ask for a list of pediatricians in your area that are in your healthcare network. Your healthcare provider will most definitely be able to pinpoint all the local pediatricians near your home.
Another restriction on children’s doctor coverage may be that visits with specialists may not be paid unless your primary caregiver refers you to him or her. This is an important step that shouldn’t be overlooked should your child need to see a specialist or other another clinic.
Getting a referral from your primary doctor should not be hard; children’s doctor offices are very familiar with the ins and outs of healthcare. If you have any concerns or doubts about how to go about securing a referral to the specialist your child needs, ask your primary doctor.
However, do not go solely on the word of your doctor. Call your healthcare provider and ask them about the process or requirements of getting a referral or if there are any restrictions or prerequisites to seeing a specialist.
The bottom line it, you are responsible for the bill, so make sure ahead of time that you have gone through the correct hoops before you walk into a new children’s doctor office.
So what do you do if have an emergency and don’t have time to go through all those hoops? Well, you should know before an emergency happens where the nearest hospital is to you that is within your network. Once again, your healthcare provider should be able to tell you which hospitals or emergency rooms those are.
It is also very reliable to ask the hospital administration if they accept your insurance. The hospital administration will definitely be the experts in their field and know exactly what limitations or restrictions come along with your specific health coverage. Of course, just as with finding your pediatrician, you should be certain and check with your healthcare provider because ultimately, you are responsible for the bill.
You should always carry your insurance card, and your children’s insurance cards if they are covered under a different health plan, in case of emergency. In most cases, you can call the number on the back of the card and discover if a hospital or clinic is covered. It’s important to carry medical insurance details with you because you never know when you’ll need them.
The truth is that every parent wants the best healthcare for their child. At the same time, money, bills and living within your means is important to provide a secure future for your child.
