Car storage is not just about parking it at a safe place, locking it, and then leaving the vehicle. There are several things that you need to take into your careful consideration while you are storing your car in a car storage , especially when kept for longer period of time. You might have more cars in your garage than you actually use. There are people who use a particulate type of car only during the winter season. They store other cars in a car storage unit during the cold months. If you are one of them, you must know how to prepare a car for long-term car storage . Following is a brief rundown explaining how to go about it.

    Gas Tank Must Be Full
When it comes to car storage , the first thing that you have to do is to make sure that the fuel tank is full. If the tank is not full, the gasoline will absorb high amount of water, which is not good for the health of your car. It will be better if you use some additives like Dry Gas or Sta-Bil. After mixing the additive thoroughly, you should drive the car for at least fifteen minutes so that it flows throughout the fuel system.

    Check The Engine Oil
Many people store their cars in car storage unit with dirty oil in its engine, and when they take their car out after a couple of months, they wonder seeing a premature bearing failure. The oil that is contaminated with water and acids also causes rust inside the engine. So, if you do not want such unpleasant surprises, do not forget to change the engine oil before storing your car in a car storage facility. In fact, if you are not going to use your car for more than three months, you are also recommended to squirt a good lubricant liberally into the cylinders after removing the sparkplugs. If you do not perform this exercise, the piston rings will soon end up rusting on the inside of the cylinder walls.

Use Lubricant Spray In The Engine Area
To provide optimum protection to the engine area, you are also advised to thoroughly coat the entire metal surface that is exposed with the help of a good lubricant spray. The volatile carrier in the lubricant will be evaporated after a few minutes, leaving behind a protective film on the carb bodies, coils, hose clamps, and other parts within the engine area.

    Washing And Waxing
Washing and waxing of your car is also a must-do task before you store it in a car storage facility. You must apply a good wax on the entire car after washing it thoroughly. While you are cleaning the car, you should not only wash just the outside, but the inside as well. You do not, obviously, have to wash the inside – you only have to clean it properly. Besides that, make sure that your car is completely dry while you are putting it into the car storage house. So, you should wash the car accordingly, in a way that it should get sufficient amount of time to get dried.

Most importantly, if you are seriously concerned about the performance of your car, you are strongly recommended to take it out of the car storage facility at least once every month and go for a short drive.
