Do Not Let Your Textbooks Ruin Your Back
Uncategorized — By Shopping Blogs on April 24, 2010 6:52 amCollege is hard! It’s just a fact. When you come straight into college after high school, it is easy to be shocked by your newfound surroundings. Especially if you choose to attend a larger state university, you may find that you feel like your school has, all of a sudden, transformed into a giant city! Large campuses take some time to learn, and you’re going to be doing a lot of walking (and a lot of questioning) when you first arrive.
Of course, only adding to the difficulty of your new college campus is the tremendous weight of textbooks that you’re going to have to carry around in between your classes. Of course, if you are ready and willing to do a little bit of creative problem solving, then you are going to be able to reach a pragmatic solution to this problem. Rest assured, reader, that the only time that you are going to have to carry all of your textbooks at once is when you make your first trip from the store to the car. After that, you are going to be able to manage your weight load just fine.
While it may seem silly, you might very well consider buying a luggage-type backpack—you know, one that comes with a pulling handle and some wheels on the bottom. Sure, you may feel like you are going to looking silly pulling your books along behind you as you make your way from class to class. What you are going to find, though, is that you are not the only person who is going to be doing this around your campus. If you can get over how you are going to look when you are pulling your books around, then you are going to find that your textbooks take much less of a toll on your back when you are making your way around.
Of course, another thing that you are going to want to do (and you are going to want to do this regardless of the number of textbooks that you are carrying around) is memorize your class schedule. If you plan it right, then you are never going to have all of your classes in the same day.
This, of course, means that you are not going to have to worry about lugging all of that weight around every day. If you live close to campus, then you can simply grab the books that you are going to need for the next couple of hours, and return home for the others when you have a gap in your schedule. When I attended college, this is how I did it; I have to tell you, it really cut down on the strain that I was experiencing.
Finally, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are wearing the right shoes as you are making your way around campus. This may sound really funny, but it’s actually true. If you are not wearing shoes that give you good support, then carrying your textbooks might very well end up hurting your back. Be sure that you have a decent pair of walking shoes—some shoes that give you good lumbar support—and you are going to find that making your way from class to class has, all of a sudden, become a lot less intense.
