Different Types of Parties

There are numerous reasons why people decide to have parties. Often, parties are held to celebrate an event or accomplishment but there are also many times when people have a party simply because they want to party.

One of the most popular reasons people hold a party is because they want to celebrate a birthday. No matter how old you are turning, it is fun to celebrate birthdays. When you are a little kid your parents will often hold a party for you with balloons, lots of presents, and a big cake. As a child, you are sometimes given the choice as to what kind of party you would like to have. Many children have slumber parties with late movies, games and pizza, while other children choose to have parties at a place such as a roller rink or a game place. Children look forward to their birthday parties for months ahead of time and the day is one of expectation and excitement. As you get older your birthday party becomes a little different. The most anticipated birthday for many people is their 21st birthday because they are finally allowed to drink legally. The 21st birthday usually consists of going out to the bars and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. The birthday girl or boy will have lots of shots bought for them, and they will usually not remember half of the evening and end up with their head in a toilet. This is all part of the fun of celebrating a 21st birthday. After this special birthday, birthday parties are not always as exciting because there is not as much to look forward to. As people get out of their 20’s they begin dreading birthdays because, with each birthday, they are getting closer to middle age.

Besides birthdays, there are many other reasons why people have parties. Many people enjoy having holiday parties where they celebrate Christmas, Halloween, or any other major holiday. On holiday parties, festive decorations are set up to create the holiday atmosphere and people will usually dress up in holiday attire. Also, snacks are served with correlate to the specific holiday and holiday games are often played.

Parties are also held to celebrate milestones in people’s lives. Whenever a couple gets engaged they have a party and whenever a baby is expected a party is thrown. Parties play an important role in helping celebrate these milestones and give people the chance to congratulate friends and family who are experiencing these milestones by coming to the parties and bringing presents with them. There are also parties thrown when people are moving away or returning after a long time to celebrate their move or their return.

Sometimes, a party is held simply because people want to party. College students and young adults particularly like to party because many of them enjoy drinking, being social, and meeting new people. Often, house parties are held for college students where people go just to drink and have a good time.

No matter what kind of party you are attending it is important to be responsible when you do go to a party. Parties are meant for people to have fun but you also need to remember to be safe when going to a party especially if alcohol is involved. If you plan to drink at a party make sure you have a safe ride home and don’t drink too much alcohol because you could get sick!
