Exploring different foods and deciding what you like is important because it makes up part of your identity and will influence decisions you will make for the rest of your life. Of course, what you eat is not relevant to your personality or what kind of person you are on the inside, but every day you will make decisions about what to eat which will affect where you go, what you buy, and the people you will meet.

Deciding which foods you like begins in childhood. Tasting all sorts of different foods and being exposed to a number of meals from different cultures as a young child is important to help you keep an open mind and accept different types of recipes and flavors from the get go. The food that parents feed their children on a regular basis will usually be liked by the child in adulthood because they will usually find the food comforting and familiar. This is why adults and children from specific cultures enjoy eating the foods they were exposed to as children. While an American child might find Asian food unusual and not very good, an Asian child might not enjoy American food in the same way. Therefore, whatever you eat in childhood you will most likely enjoy in adulthood.

As an adult, you begin to step outside the box and try new foods for a number of reasons. First of all, you will begin going to a variety of restaurants for social and business reasons. If you have never been to a certain restaurant and it does not have a dish you are familiar with, then you will have to try something new. Also, for most adults it becomes fun and exciting to try different dishes and foods than for children who are usually opposed to food that is strange and unusual.

Adults also appreciate different foods because their preferences for foods change drastically from childhood to adulthood. Many adults find that they stop preferring extremely sweet food such as candy and ice cream and instead like a variety of dishes that include more vegetables, spices, and cheeses.

Regardless of what types of dishes you enjoy, the food that you like will affect your life in a number of ways. Deciding which restaurant to go to with a group of friends can always be interesting because everyone has different tastes and preferences. The best way to deal with this situation is to compromise and let everyone take a turn picking the restaurant. By exploring new restaurants and styles of foods you might find a dish you like that you would have never considered.

Deciding which foods to buy is another decision you will make regularly every time you go to the store. After you know which dishes you prefer, you will be able to buy the correct ingredients to prepare such a dish. Also, your tastes in food will affect how much you are going to be spending at the store.

Finally and most importantly, the food you eat is going to affect your health. Regardless of what you like, make sure that you are eating healthy foods and dishes so your body can stay healthy. Eating fast food and greasy fatty foods regularly is going to impair your health so you cannot live a fulfilling life.
