College Freshman Love Going Out
-
Once a high school graduate enters into college, their whole life will change drastically. Although many of them will uphold the morals and responsibilities they had in high school, many others will begin to party and start going out all the time. Unfortunately, for many college freshman, this lifestyle ends abruptly when they flunk out of school and have to go home to very angry parents with lots of strict rules, including a curfew.
It is very easy for college freshman to fall into the going out lifestyle because there are so many opportunities to party. First of all, college freshmen are on their own for the first time in their lives and the new lifestyle without the rules of parents calling all the shots is very appealing. So, many of them will take it to the extreme and start going out all the time, stay out late, and begin drinking heavily. No longer do their parents know what they are up to, and the ability to decide whether or not they want to attend class and/or work that day is in their hands. Many freshmen make poor decisions because, when they start going out all the time, they begin skipping classes, and end up flunking their first year of college.
There are many opportunities for freshmen who want to start going out regularly. Even though they are not yet 21, there are tons of house and frat parties on or close to campus. These parties have alcohol supplied by upperclassmen and often cater to numerous underage drinkers on any given night. Going out to these parties can be dangerous for underage drinkers because they are often busted by cops if they get too crazy or loud. If a party is busted by a cop and there are underage drinkers present, many people can get into trouble. First of all, all the underage drinkers can receive MIPs and anyone who is over 21 and knew that underage drinkers were present can also get in trouble for supplying alcohol to minors. Even though going to these parties is a huge risk, many college freshmen take the chance every weekend because they love going out, being social, and getting drunk.
Another place college freshmen enjoy going out to are bars. In a college town, many bars let in minors and just do not let them purchase or drink alcohol. If this is where underage students are going out to, they will sometimes drink beforehand so they can be drunk at the bar. Also, many students who are underage have a fake id. Having a fake id is a huge risk for someone who is underage because if they get caught with it they can get in huge trouble. However, the temptation is too much for many, and they will find a fake and use it all the time when they are going out.
It is unrealistic to try to convince college freshman to stop going out. They are going to do it regardless of whether it is a smart decision or not. However, it is important to convey to them that school should always come first. College is expensive and important for their lives and it should not be thrown away because of constant going out. There needs to be a balance drawn between going out and school where school is a top priority, but the student is still enjoying college life and being social.
