The giant shopping plaza had just been complete. Heather could not wait to walk through the revolving doors and explore every inch of the super-mall. She lives in the suburbs of a large metro area and knows every mall within 40 miles like the back of her hand. The excitement and adventure of weaving through a new mall had Heather holding her credit card in hand as she drove to the mall.

It was a Friday morning when she pulled onto the freshly poured parking lot. Even the stripes on the ground were brightly painted and marked the way for her to go. As she looked up and saw the grand opening banners draped across the doorways, she knew it was going to be a wonderful day.

Heather started out by taking out the list she had made in her purse. There were four children on her list and she had to buy Christmas presents for them. She had chosen their names from a local group in town who provides gifts for children whose parent is oversees on duty with the military. The children on her list ranged in age from 2 to 8 and, having no children of her own, she was unsure what they might like.

Luckily, each child had been asked to write down three things they might like to get for Christmas and the organization had also listed their clothing and shoe sizes.

Heather walked into the corridor and gasped as she drew in her breath. The mall had taken out all the stops on decorating for the holiday season. Each twinkle light made a rainbow reflection on the shiny tile floors. The garland was hung perfectly draped at every banister, window, doorway and passage. There were ornaments and doves, holly and mistletoe. Down the center of every flower box were evergreens adorned with rows of sparkling ice cycles.

Heather found herself taken away in the vastness of the mall and before she knew it, she had lost track of where she had been or where she needed to go. She had to laugh at herself, a professional shopper of sorts getting lost in a mall.

Luckily, there was a shopping directory at the next corner where she would either enter down the main hallway or trail off another extension of the mall. She took a moment to find the spot on the shopping directory where she was standing and then looked at the list of stores.

The shopping directory had broken up the index of shops by type. All the women clothing stores were listed and then labeled with numbers and letters on the shopping directory map.

Heather was tempted to take a quick look at her favorite store, but reminded herself of the purpose of her trip. She quickly looked down the shopping directory index and found the listing for the toy store.

She was surprised to see that there were three stores dedicated to selling childrens toys. One of them listed on the shopping directory stood out to her as one of her favorite places to go with her brother when they were little. As she entered the store, the train sets and toy dogs were all racing around the store. The chaos of a hundred toys all going at once was a delight to her. She took her time going up and down every aisle, putting a lot of thought into each choice for the four children on her list.

Finally, she walked to the register with four gifts that were just perfect for each of the children that would be missing their mother or father this holiday. Although the gifts could not replace a missing family member, the joy these children would get and the thankfulness in the hearts of their parents would help Heather spread a little joy and happiness to the lives of those who were making a great sacrifice.

Furniture Shopping for Our New Place

When my roommate and I decided to move in together, the only places we could find that we liked were unfurnished. We fell in love with a particular place, but we did not have the furniture to furnish it. We agreed that we did not want to settle on a place that was furnished just because it had furniture. Instead, we would go furniture shopping and furnish it ourselves.

The first place we decided to start furniture shopping was online. There are a lot of websites now that people can use to sell things they do not want and we figured this was probably the cheapest way to start furniture shopping. We did raise our flags about scams and rip offs, but all the online buying and selling experiences I had had in the past were always positive with both parties happy with the outcome of the sale. We religiously combed through the listings on these websites for unwanted couches, tables, chairs, and beds. We knew that we would not be able to do all our furniture shopping online, and we also had a limited budget, so we knew we had to think each decision through before we made a commitment.

Eventually, our online furniture shopping was successful and we purchased a kitchen table and chairs and two bed sets off of a website for a very decent price. Now, we still had to piece together our living room and the rest of our bedrooms, so we decided to take our furniture shopping to the stores.

The first thing we decided to look for was our living room couch. We both wanted our living room to look nice, considering it was where we would be spending most of our time and it would be the first things people would see when they walked into our house. We wanted to make a good impression. Furniture shopping for our couch, however, ended up being challenging. It was frustrating when we realized that most of the decent looking couches were a little bit out of our price range. We also could not agree on what we liked. We went from store to store, furniture shopping for these couches until we came to a furniture outlet store. Finally we were in a store that we could afford to be in! Many of the couches they offered were in our price range and we felt, sat on, looked at, and contemplated each of the different couches we came to.

Finally, our furniture shopping for the day was successful. We came upon a couch and loveseat set that were grey, fluffy, attractive, and in our price range. We went home that night feeling like we had accomplished something.

The rest of our furniture shopping happened slowly over the next couple of weeks. We went back to the outlet furniture store and found some pieces for our bedroom. We then combed the online sites again until we found some cute end tables that matched our new couches. Finally, though, we reaped the benefits of all our furniture shopping; we had a cute new place with furniture we actually liked. Our house had character and it was just what we wanted. Furniture shopping for an entire place took a while, but ended up being worth it in the end. We are very happy that we did not settle on a place we did not like, just because it already had the furniture.

My Surprise Car Shopping Trip

My junior year of college my parents came down for one weekend to watch a football game, take me out to dinner, and just spend a little quality time with their daughter. We were at the local pizza place, waiting forever for our food. The place was packed because the football game had just gotten out and it was the best place in town to eat. As we were waiting, my dad started asking me whether I would like to go car shopping when I got home. I was a little confused; I already had a car, why would I need to go car shopping?

My parents told me that they thought it was time for me to get a new car. I had owned my 2000 Mercury Mystique since I was 16, and I had an accident free driving record. They told me they were proud of me because of this and my work at school, and because of this they wanted to take me car shopping as an early graduation gift. I could not believe my good fortune! I was not even expecting anything exciting to come out of this weekend, but now I got to look forward to car shopping !

Although I was anxious to get my new car, my dad told me I needed to wait until I was home for Thanksgiving break to go car shopping. He explained that it was going to take a while because we needed to look at all our options, compare prices, and test drive all the cars we were interested in. I needed to be home for more than just a weekend in order to do this. So, I had to wait a few weeks up at school before I could finally go home and start car shopping!

The day after Thanksgiving, my grandpa, dad, and I began our full day of car shopping. I was not sure exactly what I wanted, so my dad first took me to the dealers that he liked. I had a price limit of $15,000, so I could not be too crazy about what kind of car I wanted while we were car shopping. We looked at a couple different cars at these dealerships, and I even drove a few, but I was not falling in love with any of them despite all of the great qualities the car salesman and my dad kept talking about.

Eventually, we ended up at one dealership where I fell in love with one of their cars. It was cute, but big enough to be practical, and I just loved the way it looked. It did not have the appearance of a so a family car, but more like a car for a young adult. Perfect for me! I was ready to be done with car shopping and take it home but my dad was not so sure. It did not have as good of gas mileage as a lot of the other cars we had encountered while car shopping and it was also a little more expensive. I would have to spend some of my own money on it if I wanted it.

Well, I was heart set on that particular car. We continued car shopping , but I did not see anything else I liked nearly as much. My dad wanted me to be happy with the car we decided on so we eventually returned to the dealership and purchased my perfect car.

What is Your Perfect Shopping Resource?

Today, if I want to buy something, I usually have multiple different shopping resources I can use in order to make the purchase. For example, if I wanted to buy a new sweater I would typically go to the mall. However, if I was feeling ill that day, or just did not want to get off my couch, there would be plenty other shopping resources available to me if I wanted to buy the sweater from home. I could get online and look at all the different sweaters multiple stores had to offer, or I could open a magazine, pick out a sweater I like, and send in an order for it via snail mail.

All of the different shopping resources available to us today cater to the various different lifestyles people in the world are leading. I, for example, am a newly graduated college student. I work 30-40 hours a week, but other than that my schedule is pretty free. I do not have a lot of commitments at home, and I like to get out of the house quite a bit. Therefore, the shopping resource I prefer is the old school one of actually going, on foot, to the store. To me, shopping at stores is a relaxing and fun way to hang out with friends. Since I have the extra time, I like to get out, walk around, and shop. When I go shopping at the store I can make sure that the clothes I am interested in buying me fit, and I can see what they look like on. I also enjoy seeing all the different items available to me in person instead of on a computer screen or in a magazine. So, of all the different shopping resources available, the store is the best shopping fit for me!

Although I may prefer shopping at the store, to a mom with six kids and a full load of responsibilities at home, this may not be the best shopping resource. I am sure that dragging six children to the mall or Wal-Mart is no easy feat, and probably more of a stressful situation than anything else. Also, if mom does want to go out to the store and dad is working, paying a baby-sitter for six children is, I’m sure, ridiculously expensive. Therefore, this mom’s ideal shopping resource might be online shopping. This way, mom can stay at home with the kids, but also shop on her computer at her leisure for whatever she might need. These days, almost all stores have a website, with their full selection of products available to the online customer.

Now, what about an elderly person in a wheelchair who does not know how to use the internet? Getting to the store is a hassle since they are handicapped, and to them, the internet and computers are foreign devices that are way too complicated. For people like this, shopping out of a magazine might be the ideal shopping resource. This way, they can stay at home and look through the pages in a book, pick something that they like out, and then send for it in the mail. Today, this shopping resource is probably the most limited since most people are turning to the internet for their home shopping needs, but it is still a possible way to shop.

So, no matter whom you are or what you do, there is a shopping resource available to you that will best suit your needs. Take advantage of the different shopping resources depending on your situation and have fun shopping!
