Buying an animal – comprar un animalBy admin on February 21, 2010 | No Comments

The Enduring Love for the Shopping MallBy admin on January 2, 2010 | 6 Comments
Shopping has never been solely about buying a new dress or pair of shoes at the local shopping mall. Not in our lifetime, anyway. As far back as the 1940’s, women would combine purchasing something at the downtown clothier with meeting a friend for a meal at the corner lunch counter down the block. In the 1960’s, the rise of strip malls extended that culture to the suburbs. Then developers began staking out large plots of land on which to build the modern day mall. National retailers jumped at the opportunity, and opened stores in these huge collections shops. They quickly became the go-to place for shopping, and for gathering with friends to socialize. Soon, downtown shopping districts were feeling the effects of America’s love affair with “going to the mall,” and stores began closing, or following their customers out to the suburban shopping center.
Today, people frequent their favorite shopping mall for many reasons. The convenience of having all those great stores under one roof allows shoppers to park once and hit all the shops they need, rather than driving around town to stand-alone retailers. While large, well-known department stores continue to be the anchors, buyers can find almost anything they want. Popular clothes sellers are sprinkled throughout the mall. Kitchen stores and bed & bath shops are well stocked household goods. The retail roster is rounded out with shoe stores, and those offering toys, gifts, books, music and videos, jewelry, and specialty foods or drinks. Service sector businesses like optometrists, hair and nail salons, or tanning places are now mainstays at the mall, too.
As great as the shopping is, many are drawn to the mall for relational reasons. Retirees gather for a cup of coffee before using the hallways of the shopping mall for a walk and talk. Friends meet for a little shopping, some gabbing and people watching, or to share a meal at the food court or a restaurant. Parents chit-chat while their young kids romp about the play area, and teenagers roam the mall with pals, hoping to see and be seen.
Many experts predicted that online shopping would be the death of bricks and mortar stores, including malls. It has not happened, and isn’t likely to come about anytime soon. People still enjoy hands on shopping, and the extra benefits outlined here make malls an enduring part of the culture.

Let The French Country Inspire Your Home DecorBy admin on November 14, 2009 | No Comments
The French Country style had always caught Leannes eye. She loved the eclectic mix of toile, brocade, and small flower prints all singing together in a room filled with antique furniture and smart accent pieces.
Until now, the only place fantasies like those had in her life were in the magazines she thumbed through in the book store. When she went to the malls shopping for this and that, she always took a little time to sit in the big comfy chair at the window of the book store. Leanne would gently look through every page and make notes of what she liked and loved about the home and garden pictures.
Every so often, an image or idea would strike her and she would purchase a magazine she especially loved, and place the remaining periodicals back on their shelf.
Before she knew it, Leanne had redecorated every room in her home with a quaint, sophisticated French Country flavor. Of course, these improvements had only been made in her mind. In reality, her apartment was painted with a gloomy grey cloud, the carpets had been worn by years of tenants before her and the small spaces did not leave much room for an antique wardrobe or table.
Dreaming of her home someday was how Leanne relaxed and de-stressed her life. So when her job offered her a promotion with one catch – Leanne would have to relocate – she was more than excited to move out of her dingy apartment and buy a little bungalow or cottage somewhere.
She could see herself now, finding a distressed hutch at a flea market, going to the malls shopping for blue and white patterned china, rummaging through yard sales looking for things that spoke to her. To Leanne, part of the charm of the French Country flavor was purposing old pieces for modern use. She could not wait to pack her apartment up, rent a truck and move across the country.
Leanne found a realtor in her new city and described the kind of home she was looking to buy. Since she had been living in such a modest apartment for many years, Leanne had tucked away a nice down payment for her new home.
Of course, she did not use all her life savings on the down payment. She reserved some aside to buy things that all homeowners need like a tool set, hammer, drill, ladder, etc. But she also kept some back for more important purchases like yards and yards of French inspired fabrics so she could make curtains and slip covers for her new home.
She was surprised at how quickly the realtor found a few houses that met her criteria. Leanne took a weekend to fly to the new city and go house hunting. Immediately, she knew destiny had found her.
Right there on a corner lot of a small subdivision was a quaint, chic little cottage with all the character and charm Leanne had dreamed of. It was no matter that the previous owners had really tried to make the home more contemporary with their straight lines and simplistic approach to decorating. When she walked into the home, she immediately saw herself cooking in the kitchen, sipping coffee by the window, reading a book in a comfy sofa perched by the front window.
And it all came full circle. All the time she spent sitting in her chair at the book store while she was at the malls shopping had prepared her for this moment – the moment when her imaginations would no longer be tangible only through pages of a magazine, but realized in her very own home.
There was nothing more to be said about it. Leanne purchased the house and spent the rest of her weekend in her new city going to all the malls shopping for new furniture. At first, she went to the malls shopping to the second hand stores and antique malls. She wanted to find a few great items that she could use to inspire and wrap the rest of her style around. Then she went to the malls shopping for lamps and mirrors and new things that would accentuate her new home. By the end of the weekend, her trip going to all the malls shopping had resulted in a nearly furnished home.
A month later, Leanne was sitting in her own living room in an overstuffed chair, drinking her latte, reading a magazine she bought a while back and making mental notes about how she could make her bedroom more chic and cozy.

What To Do When Your Kids Do Not CleanBy admin on November 14, 2009 | No Comments
Sarah had two small boys who just loved to remove every toy they owned from their cubbies and shelves and drawers, play with each item for a moment, throw it in the floor and move on to another toy. By the end of every day there was not an inch of floor in their bedroom that was not covered by miniature cars, dinosaurs, bouncy balls, baseballs, stuffed animals, puzzle pieces, coloring books and even a few sticky crumbs from lunch and snack time.
Enough was enough and Sarah thought about how she might teach the boys to be more responsible with their things and clean up after themselves. It was a very ambitious goal for two rambunctious toddlers, but she knew they could learn. They had to learn, if she was going to maintain any peace in her house every night.
She started out by going online and finding online shopping malls that listed some of the local furniture stores in her area. Sarah wanted to find a more practical closet system and maybe a suitable dresser. She did not want to spend too much because, after all, the dresser would only turn into a volcanic mountain that must be conquered by her three year old son. And any closet organizer in the imagination of her oldest son would clearly become a ladder leading to the top of his castle where he could then jump onto the monsters threatening him below.
Sarah found a few furniture stores listed with the online shopping malls that were very close to her house. When she visited them, she was a little taken back by the cost of the name brand furniture and overpriced displays.
She went home to rethink her approach. Once again, Sarah went online the website shopping malls and this time searched for organizers and space savers. She found a listing in the online shopping malls for a local home improvement store. She had not even considered them a source for the items she wanted, but decided to give it a try.
Sarah was pleasantly surprised to find quality shelving systems at a reasonable rate. She spoke to an associate at the store and told them about her concern with her kids climbing the shelves. She did not want them to get hurt, and she did not want the closet system to come crashing down or pull out of the wall.
The associate suggested that if she were very concerned about her kids getting hurt from climbing, she could put a simple latch very high out of their reach on the outside of the closet door. It was a genius idea and only cost her about four dollars.
The closet organizer worked so well that Sarah did not need a dresser, which was really a blessing. She did not want to clutter up their play space with furniture, and more than that, she did not want to give them something they may hurt themselves with.
Sarah was so impressed with the service and selection at her local home improvement store that she went back to the online shopping malls and left positive comments and feedback next to the store listing so that the next parent looking for a solution like hers would know where they could find help. Now, any time Sarah needs to make a repair or improvement to her home, she only goes to this store and speaks to their knowledgeable sales people.
She is still working on getting the boys to clean their room.

People Watching And Mall Walking
If you have recently been to the malls shopping then you may have been part of what some call People Watching. People Watching is simply just a coined term for observing the differences and unique qualities of the strangers walking around you. The truth is that we all engage in this informal pastime without knowing it sometimes. Some may think it rude or silly, but to some degree, we all observe those around us and make judgments about what we like or dislike about them.
You need not be at the malls shopping to find yourself observing new trends as people pass you by. And there can be benefits as you may even gain a few things from watching others. You could notice something as material as a new fashion trend you like or find yourself moved by the affection between a couple in love.
There are more places to enjoy People Watching. Some other popular venues to enjoy relaxing and observing your surroundings and the others around you are airports, parks, streets, restaurants and clubs. You will find that people act differently depending on their location.
For example, a man in a suit rushing through the airport is much more hurried and irritable at that time than he would be sitting on a park bench with his dog. Likewise, a business woman talking on her cell phone as she walks a city block to get to work is probably more serious than she would be if she were enjoying a dinner with her boyfriend. So, it could be determined that our surroundings and tasks influence how we act and what we do.
The interesting thing about being at the malls shopping is that you will find a combination of the serious, rushed shopper and the leisurely wanderer strolling through the halls. The mall is a place where societies mesh together. You can find any style of clothing, home decoration or novelty item in a mall and the coming together of all these things in one place can make for an interesting trip.
Naturally, we tend to befriend others with the same interests and likes as we have and this can eventually lead to isolation from social groups who are unlike our own. The beauty of going the malls shopping for your new shoes rather than a boutique downtown is that you will open yourself up to see other cultures, trends and groups that you may have otherwise missed.
Of course, there are practical reasons to adapt to going to the malls shopping for your family. At the mall, you will be able to buy things for your entire family all under one roof. Whereas, you would have to travel to several different specialty stores to find the right items for the varying sizes and likes of each family member.
If you apply People Watching to your family members and discover their unique trends and likes, you may be surprised at the similarities and differences. They are sure to be as unique as each of the strangers walking past you in a mall or at the park.
There is likely to be something for everyone to do at the mall. Many shopping plazas have theaters, portrait studios, play areas and even pet stores in them. Some friends enjoy walking through the mall for exercise and to enjoy observing those around them. This is commonly referred to as Mall Walking and can be a lot of fun. In cold weather, it is a great way to stay active and indoors and still connect to the people around you.

Santa Claus Is Coming To A Mall Near YouBy admin on November 13, 2009 | 2 Comments
very year around November or December there is a certain man who makes an appearance at shopping malls around the country. His jolly laughter and bright red cheeks bring dreams and magic into the lives of children everywhere.
Whatever you call him, Old Saint Nick, Santa Claus, Kris Kringle or Father Christmas, the standing tradition is to take your children to the shopping malls and let them whisper secret wishes into his ear in exchange for a candy cane and a photograph.
Yes, the tradition of sitting on Santas lap and taking your childs picture has become part of every family photo album. Perhaps more often than not, the family photo will show a plump man in a red suit with a billowing white beard and small round spectacles sitting on the edge of his nose. And in the photo on the lap of Old Saint Nick is a young toddler whose face is red from screaming and crying for fear of the stranger holding them.
As the time of year approaches and you see the flyers at the shopping malls announcing the arrival of Santa Claus do not hesitate to take your tots to sit on Santas lap. Here are some tips to make your trip to the North Pole go more smoothly and hopefully result in a happy photo for everyone.
First, get to the shopping malls about ten or fifteen minutes before Santa is on the clock. If you get your kids in line at the beginning of the day before all the other moms and kids are in line then you may be able to avoid waiting a very long time while other children take their turn telling Santa what they want for Christmas.
Secondly, bring a little snack so that while you are standing in line your kids will have something yummy to tide them over while they wait. Also, you could play a Christmas game by counting the elves, candy canes, snowflakes or other decoration surrounding Santa. If you use a little creativity, you can use the time waiting in line to build up the excitement of sitting on Santas lap.
You should also decide if you have more than one child if they will go see Santa together or if they each want to take a turn individually. You may want a photo of them all together, but each could have their own turn telling him what they really want to see under the tree on Christmas morning.
Another way to make your transaction go smoothly is to know what forms of payment the elves accept if you want to purchase a photo. By having everything ready you will be able to quickly get through this process and all the moms and children behind you in line will appreciate that.
These are just a few ways you can make your trip to the shopping malls at Christmas time less stressful.
Of course, it is also handy to know when Santa will be at the mall if you want to avoid the outburst your child might have if they do not get to stand in line. There is nothing worse than a tired family after a long day of shopping when the kids spot the Santa Stop and throw a fit if they do not get to have a turn.
