There is nothing quite like driving to the gas station and watching the total zoom dollar by dollar. It used to be that you could count along with the total as it flipped from one penny to the next. Nowadays, your mind can hardly keep up with the digits as they flash by.
The rising cost of gas is only one of the reasons it is imperative that we look to alternative vehicle fuel sources in the future. As they say, there’s more than one way to skin a cat.
It rings true; a cat can be skinned more than one way. In the case of finding alternative vehicle fuel the obscure solution might be to look at a new mode of transportation altogether, or in some cases, back to the old ways.
Of course, I’m talking about the train. But not just a dirty old locomotive that runs on a track laid out across rough and rugged terrain. Railways have come a long way in the last century and any major city has an intricate railway system already in place.
Some railways may run on fuel but the alternative vehicle fuel for railways is now electricity. Modern railways and subways are powered by electric voltage lines, some may be underground, at ground level or strung above the ground on power lines. While a railway system is necessary for public transportation in cities and popular among highly populated areas, the use of a railway system as personal transportation is not widespread.
Come to think of it, there is a bit of irony in our looking back at the railway as a new mode of transportation. A hundred or more years ago, the railroad was a booming industry that made it possible for people to travel from one place to another. At that time, railroads were not built into the city; the cities were built around the railroad. Towns and cities popped up across the country when the railroad made a new stop and tourists brought money into a new town.
What would our ancestors think of our predicament, having forgone the railroad so that every family could have two or three cars, and now we are once again considering the need for public transportation for the masses?
Surely, railways are not the end all of the need for alternative vehicle fuel but the answer will not lie in one source, but more likely a combination of alternatives and changes. Perhaps a growing dependence on the railway system is part of that solution.
Until the railways extend beyond the major cities and the limited suburb stops they make, what can we do to cut down on fuel consumption? Again, the answer is simple. Instead of trying to buy conversion kits for alternative vehicle fuel sources, consuming less energy is a more immediate solution.
Here is the answer to a quick and easy method of conversing fuel. Carpooling is no new idea, but it is hardly used by most Americans. You could start a carpool group by finding co-workers in your office who live in the vicinity or take the same route that you take and agreeing on a common meeting place and time. By meeting with 3 or 4 other people, you would be able to share the driving responsibility, save some wear and tear on your vehicle and split the cost of fuel .
Imagine your checkbook one month from now, when the cost of gas has been cut in reduced to half, or even a fourth of what it use to be.

If there is one major topic of discussion in the world today it is the discussion of fuels . With some people it is a very touchy subject to talk about. You can even remember during the last presidential debate that the candidates were asked many questions around the topic. They were frequently asked questions about what they are going to do to get the country alternative fuels for the future and become less dependent on other countries. It is very hard for people to not think about the future and what can happen if we do not plan accordingly. Right now we are trying to find ways to produce energy for our country without having to depend on alternative choices.
This is a subject that can make people feel very uncomfortable when talking about it. The conversation can be very heated because no one really knows what is going to happen and how we are going to be prepared for the future. Right now many companies are experimenting on different sources of energy to see what is going to be the next breakthrough energy source.
Nuclear Energy
Right now, nuclear energy is being used in many different areas. It provides the area with a source of electricity. Right now nuclear power provides around 12 to 15 percent of the electricity of the world. For many markets, they are very happy to have such a great and reliable source of energy in their area.Since this type of energy is producing a lot of electricity, a couple of companies are thinking about the idea of electric powered cards. With having this type of car out there, you will see that there is less of a need for gas. If we can find alternate fuels that can get us away from asking for more from our foreign friends and depend on our own natural resources.
Wind Energy
There are many companies that are trying to start the revolution of wind energy as fuels. In other companies, they are starting to see more than a five percent production of energy from the wind. It just makes sense for us to use such an abundant source of power such as the wind. There is always wind blowing in some part of the nation. Why not harness that power in more places than just the limited ones that we have now. The reason is that people see trying to capture wind as a source for electricity as a waste of resources. They believe that they can put the money toward other fuels in development. Also with wind power, the energy produced has to be used right then and there. Right now there is not a way to store the energy and then use it when you desire. It is one of the few sources of energy that we have that can not match the demand.Coal Energy
Coal is very hard to come by and takes a team of miners to do deep into the earth in order to find this precious natural resource. It does take years in order for coal to be formed. After it is found and collected, you can see that that coal is very valuable to many different countries. In our country coal accounts for around fourteen percent of the electricity we use. In some countries, coal accounts for over sixty percent of the electricity they use. They have gotten the production of coal to energy to as efficient as can be.As you can see there are different alternative fuels out there and there are more that are not listed here. This country will need to find some different ways to produce electricity for the future. It would seem that our future depends on it.

The best fuel alternatives to gasoline and crude oil are those that are renewable energies and natural resources. There are ideas and inventions that raise questions like would the general population be able to run their cars on vegetable oil, can a car run on water or compressed aid, how successful are battery operated vehicles, can cars run on solar energy alone and more.
Some of these questions may seem like a fantasy or scenes from a science fiction movie, but they are valid questions that pose endless possibilities for the automotive future.
Take, for example, the possibility of hydrogen powered cars. Hydrogen is a light element with a very high energy return. If you think it is too good to be true, then think again. There are already kits and conversions available that will allow you to replace the need for gasoline with water right out of your garden hose.
But before you start disassembling your car to replace the gasoline tank, take a step back. There are set backs to running your car on water. While water is a viable fuel source, the energy earned from one gallon of water entered into the tank is about half a gallon of fuel. So you are wasting half your effort and fuel by using hydrogen.
Wasting half a gallon of water is still cheaper than purchasing half a gallon of gasoline. However, there are other setbacks to using water as your only fuel source. Some hydrogen fuel studies have shown that the water can damage the motor and metal parts of the car. After all, water and metal can sometimes cause rust, and to date, no cars have been fueled by rust.
Vegetable oil is also a trendy alternative gas option. There are plenty of stories about people who have powered their car with the discarded french fry oil from a local fast food restaurant. You may consider this an urban legend, but there could be some truth to it.
Any diesel engine can be converted to run off of vegetable oil. If you are savvy enough to convert your own diesel, you may be able to bargain the used vegetable oil from a local restaurant, but you would have to filter the oil. As long as you had the right bins and a little time to do that, it may be well worth your effort. Or you could purchase the oil from a restaurant wholesaler.
Farmers can greatly benefit by converting their tractors and farm equipment to vegetable oil powered vehicles and may enjoy the great feeling of supporting alternative gasoline resources.
So if all these alternative resources are viable and available, why are we all not driving cars powered by oil? There simply is not enough of it to make a considerable dent in the gasoline usage.
The economic consequences of losing dependency on oil are also uncertain. Such a topsy turvy twist in the demand would make corn farmers as rich as oil fields and at the same turn have a sudden loss in the pocketbooks of the oil companies.
As technology and our environmental sensitivity changes, perhaps cars will evolve into more futuristic power sources. Until then, there are several changes you can research that will improve your gas mileage and help you save the resource and a little money as well.

Usually, the summer is a time when people can sit back, relax, and enjoy the warm weather. As the sun beats down onto the hot pavement causing heat waves to rise and shimmer, families and friends take outings, vacations, and participate in events together to enjoy each other and the time off. School gets out for the summer and children and adolescents face the next three months with high expectations of what to do with their free time. Visions of clear blue swimming pools, big ocean waves hitting the sandy shore, and dripping ice cream cones on the front porch, swim through many young people’s heads as summer approaches. Unfortunately, the summer of 2006 presented a challenge that stood in the way of many people’s dreams. Fuel cost went out the roof, making driving anywhere incredibly expensive.
Fuel is a non-renewable resource and there is not always going to be fuel when we need it. Because of this, alternative fuel solutions are being invented and considered every day. The summer of 2006 with its incredibly high fuel cost, skyrocketed this industry. Advancements in vehicles which run on electricity instead of fuel have been developed and are now used by many drivers all over America. Although the initial cost of these vehicles is high, the amount you save in dollars over time because you are paying much less for fuel cost and the knowledge that you are helping the environment can make it worth it.
Because of the high fuel cost , no longer were all the dreams that come with summer possible. Cutbacks had to be made on all fronts because of the fuel cost, and for many families the first thing to go was summer vacation. Imagine the disappointment when the ever approaching summer vacation suddenly came to an abrupt halt. No longer was the dream and expectation of lying out in the warm sun smelling of coconut and sweat, feeling the warm sand underneath ones toes, and hearing the crashing waves, going to happen. Fuel cost to get from one’s house to a vacation spot was no longer reasonable or affordable since the fuel cost was double what it had been a few months prior.
Even traveling to a job that was not within a few minutes of one’s house was expensive. Because the fuel cost was so extreme, people were spending quite a bit of the money they made each week paying for the gas they used to get to work that week. Obviously, this occurrence had many people grumbling and upset because paying for the fuel cost was eating away at money they once had to spend on themselves and things they could appreciate more than putting gas into their car.
The high fuel cost did have a positive effect on America however. Because of it, people began to carpool and look into alternative fuel solutions. Both of these options are great ways to help save the environment and the fuel which is non-renewable and will run out someday. Although fuel cost has gone down significantly since the summer of 2006, it is important to remember to conserve it even if it is not eating away at your wallet. If we run out of fuel and there are not solutions as to how we will get around, the American people are going to be faced with a pretty big dilemma.

However, just like all other energy saving appliances, even though they might be more expensive initially they will be sure to pay for themselves and more over time. Energy saving light bulbs use one-fourth the amount of energy a regular light bulb uses but they produce the same amount of light!
People are always thinking about the here and now, but it is important to remember that saving a lot of money over a long period of time is better than saving only a little bit of money initially that day. The prices on energy saving light bulbs might freak you out, but think about how a lower electric bill would make you feel at the end of the month. One of these energy saving light bulbs will save you approximately thirty dollars over its lifetime. Thirty dollars is much more money than one of these light bulbs will cost initially. Now, imagine that you replace your entire house will these light bulbs. Think about how much money you can end up saving over the years!
Energy saving light bulbs are going to be a little different than regular light bulbs so they might take a little bit of time to get used to. Also, they take a little bit longer to start up and get bright but they will eventually reach the same amount of brightness as any other light bulb. One of the most important things to know about energy saving light bulbs is that they contain mercury which is hazardous. When you do need to dispose of these bulbs it is important to do it in the proper way. If you simply throw these bulbs into the trash they can leak hazardous material into the earth. It is important to take old energy saving light bulbs and to seal them into two thick plastic bags and then take them to the nearest recycling station that deals with hazardous materials. This is a little bit more work than with regular light bulbs but there are so many benefits which outweigh the cons when you use energy saving light bulbs.
By switching to energy saving light bulbs you will be doing a huge part in helping to save the environment. Not only that, you will also be benefiting yourself because you will be saving a lot of money over time by using these light bulbs.

If your city has great public transportation services you might not even need a car and without a car you can save tons of money since you are not paying for gas, your car, or car insurance.
Another fun and smart energy saving technique is to get a bicycle. Tons of people are out of shape and need more exercise and for the places that are close by but too far to walk to, a bicycle is a great alternative and energy saving solution. You will get exercise while saving money on gas and not contributing to the fuel dilemma.
These easy energy saving strategies, once enacted, can make a huge difference in your life and the world in general. Conserving fuel is an important thing everyone needs to start doing if the earth is going to continue sustaining the people on it.
