  • Scrumptious Salads
    By admin on January 19, 2010 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

We all have our own preferences: maybe something simple, like a like a chopped crisp head of iceberg lettuce, adorned with a few simple garnishes, and tossed with a basic vinaigrette. Perhaps your favorite is a little more up-tempo: wilted baby spinach leaves topped with seared salmon. Whatever the occasion, the best salad recipes are ones that can be easily prepared and enjoyed by the whole family.

From the wonderfully complex, to bare bones simple, the best salad recipes incorporate the freshest ingredients on hand, into a delectable carnival for the senses. Hand chopped, washed greens; savory cheese crumbled right of the block; delicious, homemade croutons all topped with whatever dressing suits the ensemble (or your taste at the moment, as is often the case).

There is no end to the possibilities, as there are truly as many different preparation options as there are differences in tastes; the best salad recipes are able to please both the gourmand and the average Joe. For the person with just enough initiative, and sometimes a little daring, a whole new world of possibilities is out there, just waiting for you to explore it.

Although many of the best salad recipes are treasured family heirlooms, passed down from mother to daughter through the passing of years, many are out there (both in print and on the web), just waiting for you to make them a new family tradition. There are many great websites full of many delicious salad recipes that you and the whole family can enjoy. With just a click of the mouse, you can be well on your way to the perfect compliment to tonight’s meal. There are also many great salad options that can stand in as a meal all by themselves.

If a whole new concept seems daunting at first, why not try sprucing up a classic salad by adding a few new twists? With the addition of a few simple ingredients, even the most dated of salads can become new and exciting once more. Consider adding any one of (or perhaps a combination of) the following things: To spruce up a chicken or tuna salad, try adding pine nuts, grapes, pineapple chunks, beets, or mandarin orange slices; To perk up your average side salad: sliced apples, fried noodles, dates, prunes, or even banana chips can work wonders in giving your salad that extra little something. An assortment of meats, ranging in type and texture (from grilled chicken, roasted lamb, to pan seared or even raw tuna or salmon) can propel your salad from lowly side dish to hearty main course all with minimal time and effort. No matter what your preferences, the perfect salad awaits you.

Myriad styles abound, from the basic chopped greens, to fancy haricot vert salad exquisite in its taste and presentation, but as easy to prepare as your most tried and true recipe. Many cultural styles are worth taking for a twirl, as well, from spicy Latin style favorites, such as chilled black bean and roasted corn salad (a perfect compliment to grilled fish), or Asian style couscous salad, with fried noodles and stir fried vegetables, with tantalizing undertones of fresh ginger, and spicy Asian style mustard.

No matter what the occasion calls for, you can easily be prepared to serve a salad that is sure to please. The best salad recipes are those that we make our own, so feel free to experiment. Who knows, perhaps you may one day have your own little heirloom to pass on to future generations. Good eating and good luck!

  • Thing to Know about Recipes
    By admin on December 11, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Whenever people cook a meal they have never made before they will usually use recipes to help guide them in their cooking process. Although some people possess the talent to create delicious meals without a piece of paper telling them what to put in, how much to put in, and how to cook or bake whatever the meal is, most people are blind when it comes to putting together a delicious new dish. Therefore, most people utilize a recipe whenever they want to try to make something new for their friends, family, or whoever else they may be cooking for.

Recipes are used to create all sorts of different dishes and meals. Whenever a dish requires more than one ingredient, a recipe might be necessary to put it together. There are recipes for pretty much any dish you can think of that you have tried. If you want to create a new sort of dish then you can experiment with ingredients and come up with different recipes yourself. That is how recipes are formed in the first place. People experiment with different ingredients and how to put them all together and when the result is something that actually tastes good, they will have created a recipe that they can share with lots of different people.

Recipes for the same dish will offer differ from each other in small ways. For example, there are thousands of different recipes for chocolate chip cookies. Everybody has their own personal favorite as to what recipe for chocolate chip cookies they prefer. Each recipe most likely includes the same main ingredients but will differ slightly from each other in one way or another. For instance, one chocolate chip cookie recipe might call for oatmeal and flour instead of just flour, one might call for a certain type of nuts, and each of them probably have slightly different amounts asked for each ingredient. However, the end result is always chocolate chip cookies. The cookies will just taste slightly or hugely different from each other. It all depends on which recipes are used!

Some people have a knack for following recipes and creating a fabulous end product while some people don’t. Recipes can often be difficult to follow and put together and some people really struggle with following the directions correctly. They might measure the ingredients wrong, forget an ingredient, forget an important step, or undercook or overcook the dish. So, even if the same recipes are being followed, the end result is not always the same because people often make mistakes when cooking. The more absent minded and easily distracted you are, the more difficult it is going to be to create a successful dish.

If you are looking for recipes you can find them in a number of locations. First of all, cookbooks are a great place to start looking for a recipe. Cookbooks are offered in a number of different genres and tastes and you can find one for pretty much any sort of dish you would like to cook up. If you don’t have a cookbook or can’t find the recipe you are looking for in the book, you can probably find recipes you want to create online. The internet is a great place to look for recipes and it will usually give you recipes and ratings for them as well.

  • Cooking Easy Recipes
By Guest on October 3, 2009 | No Comments Comments

My first two years of college I was in heaven. I lived right on campus in the dorms and I could walk to all of my classes. I had my friends right in my hall and I finally had the freedom from my parents I had been wanting for years. One of the best things about college life was all of the dorm food. I did not have to worry about cooking, even easy recipes.  All of my food was prepared for me. It was wonderful. I had always been able to concoct easy recipes when I was at home and I had to fend for myself, but having the dining halls with the amount and assortment of food was awesome. It is no wonder most college freshman put on fifteen pounds or so. I was lucky; miraculously I did not put on any pounds at all. It was probably all the walking I had to do just to get to my classes.

I lived on campus for two years of pure bliss. When I moved off campus, however, life got hard because I had to cook for myself. My mom gave me lots of easy recipes that I could follow to make myself dinner. At first, I did not use the easy recipes. Instead, I went out to eat almost every night. Cooking, even easy recipes, seemed like so much more work, time, and effort, than I wanted to put forward. College was keeping me so busy that I did not think I had the time to whip up any food for myself.

Although going out to eat and ordering in food was always yummy and fun, eventually it began to get a little to expensive. I was not making enough at my job to be constantly ordering food and to still have enough money to do everything else I wanted to do. Eventually, I had to turn to the easy recipes I had to use.

As I sifted through the easy recipes , I found that there were quite a few in there that I liked. My mom had thought about the easy recipes she gave me before she gave them to me. I decided I would just pick one of my easy recipes, go buy the ingredients, and then see how good of a cook I could be.

I picked out a recipe for egg salad and I immediately made a list of everything I would need and I went to the store. I bought all of my necessary ingredients and then brought them home to get to work. I boiled 6 eggs for 17 minutes, let them cool, and then peeled them. After that, I cut them up into little chunks and put them in a bowl with miracle whip and mustard. I then added in relish and a little bit of onion.

After I was finished whipping up this easy recipe, I looked at it and was scared to try it. I knew if it tasted bad I would just throw all of my easy recipes out and live off of ramen noodle. I took a tentative first bite and I was elated. It was delicious! Egg salad sandwiches became a pretty standard lunch and dinner item for me from then on out.

Since I knew I could make one of my easy recipes well, I decided to try some more of them out. Eventually, I came to trust my cooking skills and I realized that as long as I followed one of my easy recipes I could cook for myself!
