There is something that people seem to forget about in the world of sales: affiliates . Indeed, when you work for a company that owns several other companies, it is easy for you to forget your place. Larger companies do not always facilitate communication between subsidiaries, and to this author, that seems like a real shame. Indeed, when you think about it, helping the broader, parent company can only help your smaller, subsidiary company. The more money the parent company makes, the better things are for everyone under the umbrella. Thus, when you are out in the field performing your sales functions, you are going to want to be sure that you are never forgetting about your affiliates . You are going to want to be sure that you leap on each and every opportunity to up sell and cross sell.

Let us say that you work for a self storage company . Let us also say that your parent company happens to own a home furnishing store. We’ll assume that these things are true because it’ll help us visualize how we might begin to help our affiliates . Knowing full well that most of the people who come into a self storage facility are moving, you might choose to put some furniture store flyers in your front office. As people come and go, a few of them are going to take your flyers. Because they are moving, they are probably looking for some new furniture, which means that they are going to keep that furniture store (and by extension, your parent company) in mind when they begin to shop around. Here, you have successfully helped your parent company by steering customers towards another one of your businesses. And you hardly had to lift a finger!

Of course, the best way to make sure that you are helping your affiliates is to learn who they are! As previously stated, it’s hard to know precisely where you stand when you work for a large company, but that does not mean that you are not allowed to ask questions. Indeed, if you can ask a few questions and figure out who all of your other partners are, then you are going to be able to keep them in the back of your mind as you are running through a sales presentation. If a customer should happen to mention that they need one of the services that your parent company can provide, then you can leap on the opportunity to up sell and cross sell.

It may seem a little bit weird, but helped your affiliates is simply part of your job. You are all part of the same machine, and you must all work to ensure that your machine does not run out of fuel. The better you know your company, the more money you’ll be able to make for yourself and for everyone involved.

When moving to a new place it can sometimes feel like you will never learn the local area . However you will be surprised at how easy it is to do a little research to help you learn to adapt to your new environment.

One of the easiest ways is to watch the local news . While the local news stations provide a few national stories the majority of the news that they report are local stories. They will help you to learn about what kinds of things are happening around the area. Often times they have a list of any upcoming events that are open to the community. These events can be not only great ways to meet people, but can provide you with excellent locations of fun things to do around the local and regional area .

Another great way to get to know your new location is to look at the local and regional area on a map. Knowing the location of not only your town but the surrounding towns can help you get to know the area a little better. Often people will talk about events or things going on in towns nearby and knowing the area will help you not feel so lost.

Additionally it will benefit you if you look into the local government . The city council and the various boards that oversee the running of the town consider laws and proposals that affect you. Knowing what is going on in the town in which you live can keep you from missing out on important changes. Also knowing about the regional government can help you acclimate to your new location. Knowing the district representatives can come in handy if you ever find yourself not agreeing with situations that arise in your local government.

Of course more than likely when you move to your new location you will be searching for a job. Unless of course you moved there for a job itself. One of the easiest ways to get to know your new location is by driving around and looking for local jobs . In between searching for help wanted signs you can try to figure out the lay of the land so to speak. What are the major highways or roads that are in town? If you have trouble finding a local job it may be necessary to expand your search. If you have to begin to search for regional jobs you will be glad that you took the time to study the map of the area.

So while in the beginning it may seem as though you will never find your way around town you might be surprised at how easily you acclimate. With the help or local and regional services you will find that in no time you are taking the city by storm. In not time at all you will be watching the regional news and following along with the stories and know right where they are talking about.

The government and other officials are actively promoting water conservations. Scientists and conservationists keep stressing on the need for water conservations around the world. But just plants or factories on water conservations and just the efforts of big organizations will not help. Every individual has to own up to his and her responsibility to water conservation. Only then can there be a true sustainable solution to the problem of water shortage.

We must first look at the need to conserve water. Water is one of the primary requirements for the sustenance of life. Without water, earth might not have been a living planet. Even when we look for extra-territorial life, one of the first things we look for is the availability of water. That is how precious water is.

Water, as we know, is created by the water cycle. This is the process by which water from earth evaporates, becomes clouds and then falls back to earth as rains, showers and snow. While salt water is available in abundance on earth, fresh water is not. For human life to survive, fresh water is very important.

Human beings have been affecting the water balance in the world adversely. We use up water even before the water cycle can create new water for consumption. We waste water by flushing, playing and dirtying it. We cause so much water pollution that re-using the water becomes impossible. We spend a lot of energy in water purification and thus deplete the earth of other resources too. We build dams and change river directions, thus causing further damage to nature. The plants and animals that depend on water suffer because of us. Thus water conservations have to be resorted to in every step in human life.

When we flush small tissues and cigarette butts down the toilet, we are wasting gallons of precious water. All we need to do is dispose things elsewhere and minimize flushing. When we shave or brush our teeth, we leave water running, thus wasting more water. We have to stop leaving taps open when we do not need the water. If we check all the pipes and plumbing for leaks, we can save a lot of water. If we separate drinking and cooking water from water for other needs like cleaning and washing, we can wisely save up lot of good water. Water should also be recycled as much as possible. If you see a broken pipeline and water leakage anywhere, you should take the responsibility to inform the concerned authorities.

These are all small steps. But as the saying goes “drops of water make an ocean”. By saving a little water, by spreading awareness, by training our children and by trying to do our bit every person on earth can help make dreams of water conservations become realities. No human should die of thirst; no living being should be deprived of clean water. It is in our hands to bring about this change.
