My Shoe Shopping Love Story
I do not know how I managed to fall in love with Monica. But I did, and now I get to experience all of her personality quirks and little fetishes. I met Monica while I was shoe shopping for a new pair of running shoes. She came sashaying up to me and asked in a cute, slightly southern drawl, if she could help me with my shoe shopping needs. Boy, she was a knockout! She had thick chestnut brown hair that cascaded down her back, an athletic body, and the most piercing green eyes I had ever seen. I stared at her, probably with my mouth hanging open, before I was able to snap back to reality and the fact that I was shoe shopping and she was simply trying to help me out.
Regaining control of my bottom lip, and my thoughts, I managed to tell Monica that I was shoe shopping for a new pair of athletic shoes. I handed her the shoe in my hand and asked her if I could please see it in a size 12.
“Oh, big feet huh? I know what that means.” She winked at me and disappeared, shoe in hand. I sat down on the closest bench and tried to figure out what I wanted to do. I came to the mall because I needed to go shoe shopping, but I was certainly not opposed to getting to know Monica while in the process. She came back a few minutes later, shoes in hand.
“Thanks..” I managed to get out, as she handed the shoes over to me. “You okay?” She asked. “You look a little flustered.”
Mortified, I tried to smile up at her. “Yea, I’m fine. This shoe shopping is just a little overwhelming for me today. So many amazing shoes to choose from…” I trailed off.“Well, I would be happy to narrow down your selection a little bit, if you would like. I know shoe shopping can be tough sometimes. I’m an expert at it though,” she smiled flirtatiously at me.
I took Monica up on her offer and sat back as she went over multiple athletic shoes, explaining the pros and cons of each one. As she talked, I was hardly listening to her; no longer was I focused on shoe shopping. Instead, I was imagining taking her to dinner, snuggling with her on the couch watching a movie, and kissing her for the first time. These thoughts trailed through my head, one after the other, as I watched the knock-out in front of me, who was simply trying to help me with my shoe shopping. All of a sudden, she was in my face, her lips inches from my own.
“Are you even listening to what I’m saying?” She asked, pouting her bottom lip a little and staring intently into my eyes with her amazing green ones. It took all I had not to grab her in the middle of the store, which surely would have been awkward for everyone else there, who actually were focusing on their shoe shopping.
“No, I’m not listening to you,” the words rushed out of me. “I’m imagining getting you somewhere where I can kiss you.”
She pulled back from me and gave me a cocky grin, “Oh, I thought you were just here to do some shoe shopping? Was that not your intent?”“Well, shoe shopping was my original plan…but well, sometimes things change.” I knew I was taking a big risk, but I could not help myself. I wanted Monica.
“I’ll make you a deal,” she looked me up and down. “You buy a pair of shoes, since I’m working on commission here. And I’ll let you take me to dinner”.
Not believing my good fortune, I stumbled to the counter with the original pair of shoes she had brought over to me. My shoe shopping was done for the day, but my relationship with Monica was just beginning.

How Clothing Shopping has Evolved for Me
When you are a baby you could care less what clothing your parents stick you in. They dress you to their desire whether it be for comfort, convenience, or because they want you to look cute that day. Clothing shopping for parents with babies is either unnecessary because of all the hand me downs they receive, fun because they like picking out cute little outfits, or just another chore to get done by the end of the day.
However, as soon as their child begins having an opinion and is able to talk, clothing shopping becomes a whole new ordeal.
When I was a little kid, every summer before school started, my mom would always take my sisters and I clothing shopping for the new school year. We would race through the department store in the mall finding matching outfits and dresses to ooh and aaah over and then, with mom’s approval, try on. If she did not like something however, and did not let us get what we want, tears and a tantrum often evolved. She never really gave us a limit on what we could buy when we would go clothing shopping, but it was always just a one-time trip and then that was it. Because of this, we had to make sure we bought clothes for the fall and winter so we had what we needed until the New Year. Those were our clothes for the school year until she took us again when the weather started getting warmer. Then, we got to go clothing shopping again!
Sometimes, our parents went clothing shopping for us for our birthdays and Christmas, but my sisters and I were usually not fond of clothing gifts. First off, my parents never bought us clothing we actually liked. Secondly, it hardly ever fit. If I actually did like it I would have to wait to grow into it, or if it was too small, I had to pass it down to my sister. Besides, it was so much more exciting to go clothing shopping with mom and pick out stuff we actually liked that was in style and cool to wear.
Clothing shopping moved on to another level for me in sixth grade when I was finally allowed to go to the mall by myself. My mom was actually pretty glad when we were old enough to go to the mall alone because she was never a fan of shopping. Instead, she would give me about $300 for clothes and, feeling rich and super cool, I would go clothing shopping at the mall with my friends and buy whatever clothing I wanted for that school year. Let me tell you, that money went extremely quickly, and I always ended up with less clothing than I would have liked.
Once I got a job my junior year in high school, my mom was not as generous when it came to clothing shopping. She still gave me some money at the beginning of the year, but most of the time when I needed (or wanted) new clothing she told me that I had a job and I could pay for it myself. However, having a job and money and making the decisions I wanted to with it was very exciting. Now, I could go clothing shopping year-round as long as I had the money for it!
