Appreciating Public Services
-
There are many basic public services that a country needs to provide to its citizens because the services are necessary for moral reasons in order for the citizens to live a civilized life. These public services are provided by the government and are paid for, indirectly, by the citizens through taxes. Without these services, a country would not be able to provide basic law enforcement, education, health, and much more.
There are many reasons why public services are necessary for a country to run as smoothly as possible. Imagine a country without law enforcement; things would be extremely chaotic. Law enforcement is a service which is provided in many countries in order to ensure that all citizens are treated equally and are protected from as many dangerous and unfortunate situations as possible. Of course, these law enforcement public services are not always effective but they do make the country a safer place to live. Public service law enforcement officials such as policemen keep an eye on the citizens and make sure that all laws are followed. Although one may not like all the laws enacted by their country’s government, laws are typically set in order to protect citizens and guarantee a safe place to live. If law enforcement was not a public service criminals would be walking the streets, nobody would be guaranteed a fair trial, and things would be pretty chaotic.
There are many other important public services such as fire protection. Many people take it for granted that they have the peace of mind that if their car or house were to catch on fire they have fire protection services. However, many countries are not fortunate to have these public services and would not have a well equipped and reliable fire fighting source to call in case of such a predicament. Fire fighters save people’s lives and properties every day and without them a fire emergency could end up disastrous.
Another one of the public services we take for granted is the ability to drive and use roads and highways. Every single day we drive on the roads and do not think about who paid for them or how life would be like without them. Living in a country without roads would be extremely difficult and different and it is rarely appreciated how they are constructed, who constructs them and the time and work which goes into them.
Public services also provide education for the children in a number of countries. Many parents are unable to afford private education and thanks to public services, all the children in America are guaranteed a free and complete education. In fact, they are required to go to school in order to receive education because it gives them the chance to be educated human beings who are on the track to living a successful life.
There are a number of other public services which are provided by certain countries by a government in order to ensure its citizens are cared for and can have the best lives possible. Public services are important for the happiness and protection of all the citizens in a country, yet a country must have the correct funding in order to provide these services. If you live in a country where public services are provided, stop for a minute and appreciate the services and all they do to make your life safe and easy.
