A Merry Heart Doeth Good
Uncategorized — By Shopping Blogs on January 1, 2010 8:15 amEvery comedian and lover of good jokes can consider this news as job security. Laughter is like medicine to the soul, and maybe the body too.
If you have ever laughed so hard you thought you just might fall to pieces, then you know how rewarding it feels to sit with a group of friends or attend a comedy show. And more than just the good feeling that laughter brings, there may be valid health benefits to giggling and chortling your way through a funny film.
Medical studies have shown that stress is a leading cause in many symptoms and even some illnesses. Stress causes people to lose sleep at night and may lead them to become dependent on prescription drugs. Circulation problems may result as veins and arteries constrict, leading to reduced blood flow.
Stress can also lead or contribute to depression, anxiety and panic attacks, as well as eating disorders. Increasing or unresolved stress can even trigger conditions so severe that an individual must go to the emergency room or begin taking daily prescription medication to counteract the side effects of stress.
These studies have even shown that the constant stress on a personal mind will make them more susceptible to viruses and colds and their immune system may weaken.
A medial study completed by a renowned university reported that laughter can cause a series of reactions that will ultimately strengthen the heart and help protect against heart attack. The same study also found that people with an existing heart disease responded less amusingly to everyday life situations.
Further studies show that 75 percent of all doctor visits are stress related. This is an incredibly high number. Before you find yourself describing symptoms of pain or fatigue to your family practitioner, try looking at life a little less seriously and enjoy a few cheesy jokes .
There are a number of other conditions and illnesses such as diabetes or even cancer that are worsened or could be a result of stress, and just reading all this may be putting a dark cloud over your head.
But cheer up, grey skies will clear up because there is an antidote to stress. Laughter has also been under the microscope of the science. Medical researchers and scientists have happy news for us all. Laughter and positive thinking do have positive affects on our appearance, health and mond. The result of a good sense of humor may be the closest we can get to the fountain of youth.
These are just a few examples of specific medical studies. To be sure, there have been many views and studies on the endless possibilities that stress or a few good jokes can have on the human body.
But the idea that jokes are good for us is not entirely new. In fact, the concept can be dated back to Biblical times and found in an excerpt of the Bible. A Proverb is equates that a merry heart is like a good medicine. So perhaps the need for a good belly laugh has been built in us all along.
One can conclude that being a worry wart may get you an extended stay in a hospital bed or reduce your quality of life. So take the time every day and go find a few good jokes to tell your friends.
