Sales is the career of honor

Wait a minute, I thought the Marines had the career with honor. Well yes they do, but I maintain the most honorable career is in sales. The world would still be in the stone age if it was not for the sales efforts of the first bronze smelters. I don’t know if you ever studied how difficult it is to turn bronze into a workable moldable substance. The first people who discovered the process had no idea of its significance. It took a sales person to realize you could create all kinds of tools that would help in agriculture. More and better crops would mean excess crops that the sales people could trade for other goods that the tribe needed. Cool new tools meant that the sales people could trade some of the cool new tools to other tribes for even more goods that were needed.

Do you think that Apple could sell any iphones if it weren’t for sales people? Sure the designers and the tech people need to get a tool or a toy right, but it is the sales department that makes the products fly off the shelves.

The bronze age sales people also saw that one could create powerful new weapons with bronze molding techniques. These new weapons came in handy when the sales people were unsuccessful creating trading relationships with other tribes and had to fight for territory, resources or honor. The sales people certainly tried to work a deal and set up mutually profitable trade routes. After all, prosperity always beats strife. Making money always beats murder and mayhem. But even back in the day of the first bronze smelting operations, there were times when you needed to call in the Marines to fight a battle. Of course the sales people in those days were selling bronze swords to the warriors of their day. If there is demand, sales people will be there.
