Happy Face and Sad Face Is Not Just For The Theatre

For as long as people have roamed the earth, body language has played one of the most important roles in communication. From the gestures in the twitching eyebrows of hunter gatherers lying in wait for their prey to the bright, doe-eyes of a young girl looking across the room at her beau to the glare of a mother’s eye as she looks at her toddler stealing a cookie off the counter, all of these communications stem from a strong look of the eye or intense body language.

How do email, text messaging, instant messaging and the many online social media networks compensate for the lack of visual, body language communication? Well the answer lies in a creative use of punctuation marks and often small graphics call emoticons.

Emoticons are commonly seen as happy, sad, silly faces and more. For example, you can insert a crying emoticon into your text message to convey the sadness you feel or perhaps pout a little to tease your recipient. Most email providers allow for small graphic emoticon inserts or they may automatically format a common code into a graphic image.

Some of the most popular crying emoticon codes are colon + hyphen + opening parenthesis :-( and also colon + apostrophe + hyphen + opening parenthesis :’-( . You can see that adding the apostrophe directly after the colon makes the emoticon appear to have a teardrop falling from its eye.

Being able to place a picture or something like a combination of symbols to convey your emotion is a perfect way to help bridge the lack of body language and physical gestures. After all, the mood and tone of written word can so often be misunderstood.

Surely, you can recall a text message or email from a coworker and when you read the message, you weren’t sure of their exact tone. Were they being sarcastic, ironic, funny, serious? If their message had contained a silly emoticon or a crying emoticon you may have been able to grasp their exact meaning more firmly.

On the other hand, you have probably been in the same room as your best friend and had a conversation on an instant message or text message marathon. Believe it or not, this most likely happens as families settle down into their living rooms and don their laptops. Inevitably, each family member will wander on to facebook or another social network and before you know it – voila – you are chatting with your sister, husband or wife across the room.

If this has ever happened to you, then you already know how silly it can get to stare each other down as you hurriedly type at each other from across the room. The same can be true as you chat your coworker from across the office or over the cubicle.

In scenarios like this, the absence of body language is really non existent because you can see the person you are chatting with. But the fun and silliness of having an emoticon/typing war can lead to a lot of laughter.

So, whether you are chatting your coworker across the hall or sending an email to your friend, use happy emoticons, silly emoticons, crying emoticons to sprinkle throughout your text so your recipient can catch your meaning.

Of course, be conservative. You don’t want every sentiment and sentence to end with a smiley face or crying emoticon because one or two, here and there, is enough to send your meaning.

  • That Is What I Call Amazing

By admin on March 10, 2010 | No Comments Comments

Every morning, we are in front of our televisions trying to figure out what the weather is going to be for the upcoming day and maybe for the night to come. Also, we want to know what is currently happening in the world. Sometimes we are so interested in what is going on in different countries that we do not see the news in our own country as interesting. Not everyone is watching the type of news that is pertaining to things that are sad and mind boggling. Many are watching news having to do with sports. Watching sports news is for some people more interesting than watching the regular news.

What captivates many of us to watch sports news is that it sometimes can be just as exciting as the everyday world news. These athletes are just as capable of dealing with events that the average American goes through. In addition to those heart felt or scandalous acts by the athletes, what hooks people into watching sports news are the amazing sports videos .

Amazing sports videos have been around for many decades and it seems to be what draws people into watching your favorite sporting show. On television you have your sport talk shows and you have your actual live sporting events. Going to a sporting event is great for the large majority of people who like live sports, but many people want to just sit back and watch the great highlights that could happen. .

There could be many reasons why people stop what they are doing in order to watch amazing sports videos . There are so many different sports out there and unfortunately not all of them are broadcasted. For the major sports, people are glued to their television to find out who is stand out and maybe create some amazing sports videos .

People these days seem to admire those people who are able to accomplish feats that they are not able to accomplish such as dunking a basketball or throwing a football sixty yards down the field to a well covered receiver. They admire that home run hitting machine of a man or that hockey player that can slap a puck over one hundred miles and hour. These are great events that are captured on amazing sports videos and replayed over and over again because they were so great. We all wish we could do what these great players get paid to do day in and day out, but we know it is just a dream.

Some of us have a family member that is participating in sports that we have to record their every move. We go to the games to support them and also we make sure they get enough sleep in order to perform their sport duties. We always hope that one day they will make it big and they will be on our favorite sporting news show leaving the competition behind. They have us on the edge of our seats and we want more and more action.

Sports in our country are a very large portion of the entertainment market. Some would say it is the biggest and most exciting entertainment that one could view. Sports involve billions and billions of dollars in order to run. These sports players can create some great moments in time that are captured on video. We sometimes live and die by what they do on a daily or nightly basis. Just like world events, sports gain our attention and the different superhuman things they do on television have us coming back for more.

  • Buy Cheap Books Online To Save Tuition and Expenses

    By admin on March 8, 2010 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

College text book prices are one of the expenses many first time college students are not aware of or do not consider. Tuition and room and board expenses can quickly glaze over the eyes of parents watching their budget so they can afford to send their child to college go even more in the red. Even worse, parents of young children use online calculators and the amount they must start saving can be staggering.

The average cost of a higher education is over $19,000 per year for public universities and nearly $40,000 per year for private colleges. Although some 70 billion dollars in scholarships were given out in the past year, that number does nott come close to the cost of colleges, universities, technical schools and college text books.

If you or your student finds that scholarships fall short of paying for all of the expenses college means, then you will have to find savvy ways to save money. One very popular and widespread trend is to buy cheap books online before each semester.

You can research and buy cheap books online by searching for wholesale or resale retailers on the Internet. Of course, there are ways to find exactly what you are looking for and find the cheapest college books.

For starters, you will have to know what book you are looking for. Each course you take will have a list of required reading. You could go to campus and purchase a book for $100 or more, but this is not the smartest way to shop and you will be kicking yourself once you realize you will need several hundred dollars worth of books.

So, once you know what required reading you will have for each course, go online and search for the exact book title and edition. Be cautions when you buy cheap books online because you may inadvertently order an outdated or older edition of the same book you need for your course.

And, do not overlook that not only can you buy cheap books online but you can sell them just as easily. Making money back on the books you use is a great way to get even more savings from buying books.

There is no doubt about it. When it comes to the choice between buying new or used books in the campus bookstore or purchasing books online for cheap, you will undoubtedly have great results and more savings by choosing the right online book source.

Remember, college students, textbooks will cost you money, no matter where you purchase them. You may be able to find an amazing deal and buy cheap books online , buy used books from the bookstore or make a deal with your classmates and buy a book or two off of them. However, when it comes down to it, you will spend a lot of money on college books. Truthfully, you probably won’t need to retain half of those books, so buying them for cheap and also selling them back for a small percentage of your money back makes perfect sense.

So, as you budget and make plans for the expense of college, don’t overlook the unexpected expenses of buying books. If you can get your student loans or scholarship to cover the cost of books, then you are sitting pretty.
